For those of you who've actually used both, which do you prefer? Just curious...From what I know (which admittedly isn't much), I prefer the ALICE gear.

I personally prefer ALICE. Just seems more comfortable to me, and the price factor help big time. ;)

ALICE. You shouldn't ditch the girl that brought you to the dance. Web belt's and H-Harnesses are all you need.

When my recruiter went in on the Marine invasion of Afghanistan, his plastic MOLLE frame broke. He said it sucked hard because it wasn't too easy to get a new frame in the middle of the invasion.

Yeah, I like the modular ability of the MOLLE system, but reports like the ones above (which I've read a lot of) make me kinda weary of it. Keep in mind I'm talking about the standard issue MOLLE gear and not all that neato BHI, Eagle, etc $7000 LBE's that SOF use.

ALICE is more comfortable, but the modularity of MOLLE is a nice thing to have.

The MOLLE vest and attachments as well as better modularity wins, but the frame sucks.
Probably why the next generation system will keep the good parts of MOLLE with a better frame.

True, true. I'll give you that much. However, the stories of mil-issue MOLLE gear failing has kept me away for the time being. Never had a piece of ALICE gear go bad (that couldn't be fixed by tossing on another clip).

Depending on what they have when I actually get into the Corps and whether or not I like it, I might try to get my hands on an ALICE rig, even if I have to buy it myself. It's better than standard issue MOLLE from what I gather and not nearly as expensive as something from BHI or such. But that's not for like almost a year, so I'll worry about it then.
Another question, did we use ALICE gear in Nam? Or was that like the predeccesor to it? B/c they look very similar.

In nam the US Army used M-56 canvas and later in the war M-67 nylon gear. The Marines used old ww2/korean vintage stuff and later in the war they had a mix of that and the M-56 and M-67 stuff. M-67 stuff looks almost identical to ALICE stuff except for a few differences.

MOLLE for direct action.
ALICE for prolonged operations.
:D
, I might try to get my hands on an ALICE rig
It's not that difficult... But not too sure why anyone going active would want to get ALICE kit - unless you're in basic, ROTC or OCS or some really low speed unit you're unlikely to see any alice gear. Also, if your unit is issued molle gear, your gunny will probably rip you a new one if you show up with alice gear. The fact of the matter is that Alice is out, molle is in. If you don't like the SDS pack or the vest, there are plenty of companies out there that make much better molle gear (sotech, tactical tailor, eagle, etc) that are still 1st sgt friendly (if there's such a thing). Guess the only advantage alice has now is cost - it'd dirt cheap. good luck with joining up!
btw the alice clips have a funny habit of detaching undear heavy weight, so dummy cord everything to yourself.

Or use MALICE clips. Or bypass everythign and use 550 cord in the place of ALICE clips, period.

I use both ALICE (w/LBV, YHarness, or Hharness) gear, and MOLLE gear. It's easier to hit the dirt with alice gear since the pouches arent covered all over your chest area like a MOLLE Rig. MOLLE vests are more comfortable IMO, and the pouches easier to access. So in the end I'm at a tie between the two. I do have A LOT more pouches for my ALICE Gear ATM though

I haven't used it for pro use, but I've used both, in my use I've found that ALICE is a very good stuff, but the modular advantage the MOLLE gives you is far better.

Isn't the Corps geting rid of MOLLE? Thought I read that in MC Times or something. Whats the replacement?

I was told my a Marine (EOD) that there units molle gear was replaced with the SOE CQB Vest. He said the reason was when they went ****e, and crawled the molle pouches would unsnap and get in the way and such. Not sure if this is true or not. Though I think Infantry Marines are going to keep MOLLE, or "AITES".

Reminds me of the movie Heartbreak Ridge, where the black guy shows up with the M1 helmet to the range instead of his Kev and Clint Eastwood rips his ass.

I have a question. Why do they say MOLLE/PALS is any more modular than ALICE. I love the MALICE clips, but I could configure, take apart, and reconfigure my H Harness setup in the time it took me to remove all the pouches off my MAV. The MALICE/MOLLE system might be more secure, but I dont see how it is anymore modular.

It's more modular because you don't see ALICE pouches being stuck everywhere like you do MOLLE pouches. They make drop-leg, chest, back, arm, backpack, and crotch panels and anywhere else you might be able to fit a double mag pouch or a grenade pouch. Sure you can move **** around on a LBE belt, but on the average you can't stick an ALICE pouch on your thigh or on your upper chest. It's also pretty low speed and would be on other places you put them. Unless you can figure out a way to make the plastic buckles work faster...

I always hated alice clips....Even tho the Natick snap, Paraclete, Malice clips attachment systems can be frustrating. That **** is rock solid and is not coming off.
