This kind of associations like Freedom House have often very stinky hidden agendas.
For instance, Ethiopia which is making now elections polls just expelled three similar USA-piloted associations (National Democratic Institute, (International Republican Institute, International Foundation for Electoral Systems) which were making silly things in this country.

From the article about the Freedom House report:
Significantly, six of the eighteen most repressive governments--those of China, Cuba, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Zimbabwe--are members of the Commission on Human Rights.
Irregardless of what you think of the source (I find them quite credible).....can anyone deny that the countries they list as being the most opporessive are the most oppressive? It looks pretty accurate to me.

This kind of associations like Freedom House have often very stinky hidden agendas. It is true that skepticism is always warranted, especially since often obscure and extremely biased groups can give themselves impressive sounding names. However, 'Freedom House' is actually very well and widely respected.

I know Freedomhouse has some very big industrialists ect that feeds it. Do as we say or you get kicked off the tit.
I will point to Belarus. I was there in Nov of last year. Minsk, Bobriusk and Gomel. It isn't such a bad place. It's biggest problem is the assholes who want to get in there and rape the country. Considering what I have seen and read in/on Eastern Europe and the conditions there since the collapse of the SU the Belorussians are making it. Lushenko may be a dictator but at least he kept the heavy industry intact and is expanding many assets they have. The just opened a med center for childrens surgery in Minsk. The trainstation there has a playland for kids complete with dinosaurs. You can't believe all of what you hear.
Some things are harsh. If you get caught with drugs you go directly to jail for years. All laws are enforced to the max.

In Gulag there also was no problem of drugs and all "laws" were enforced to the max. Geeeez we have a "Minsk Jane" here. :cantbeli: :cantbeli: :cantbeli:

Well moron have you been there to see for yourself?
Of course not. Your a sychophant, follow and lick the ass in front of you.
Drunk driving laws are even better. All the officer has to do is smell booze on your breath. You lose your lisence for 5 years and the car is confiscated on the spot. No ifs ands or buts.
Better than people running around here in America killing children wouldn't you say?
I almost forgot this one. Seattle spent 14 million on a purpose built apt building for chronic drunks. They get to stay for free on my dollar. Over there you find idiots that have no self control in the spring when the snow melts. I can agree with that. woot woot

You mean they do surgery on children and let them play? WOW! what a great country

That's much better than here in the US were they have to prove you commited a crime before they confiscate your property.

No children are ever killed there? This place sounds great woot

They get rid of the drunks by letting the freeze to death? That is utopia! I'm buying my plane ticket on monday!

It seems pretty fair. Most interestingly included in there is Chechnya, considered repressed under the Russian government.
callous i think Hugh Jardon's point was that you can't take everything at face value, sometimes first hand experiences can provide you with an insight to what life is really like there. He wasn't claiming it was a paradise, but just balancing out the debate, you don't need to try and rubbish what he said with some bad jokes. :)

Yes that's exactly what I needed to do. The points he made were rather lame. "they have a play area with dinasaurs" Well jee-wiz they can't be oppressing anyone then. It's a freakin Paradise

I dont know if the report is ment to be top 10 style countdown, but NK is of course mentioned in the report.
It gets both double seven's in the report, so it is one of the worst of the worst.
