I have a pair of the Oakley Boots which are so comfortable, but if they get wet you could hear me coming even at a live Metallica Concert. I'm not in the military and wouldn't dare pretend I was, but I have seen some photos of some military personal wearing these Oakley boots. And I wonder why they would want to wear boots like this. Anyway all I wanted to know was where I could see a pair of the Adidas Desert Boots I have heard people talking about. God Bless all the proud men and woman of our armed forces.

I can take a stab at a few ideas re: Oakly boots - Much of the time the places these are being worn in are dry. I also think that if you are getting out of a Humvee/M113/Stryker, etc. your boots don't make that much noise.
I can't speak for the Adidas. I myself wear Wellcos, which are great.

Apparently, they don't hold up to wear that well.

Danner Desert Acadias
Belleville 790's
Wellco's

Bates has a new boot out that I'm waiting to try out.. the USMC just made a HUGE order for them... I don't have the model Number before me, sorry.

I'm testing the Belleville 790s and the G-Tex model for the past year now.. Great boots, but the sole is a little hard. Matterhorn 3000 and the 3290 are great boots. I fond of Danner Boots, never worn them enough to say anything good or bad about them, but Matterhorn has out a new desert boot, I'll get it in a couple of weeks. As for the Adidas, and the Oakley Boots, buch of crap... The Adidas has a sole that wears out in 3-4 months of standard use, and they cost too much. They should stick to running shoes... I also find them almost more of a fashion statement then something that really works. As for Oakley, they should stuck to Glasses... That boot is too hot, and the soles slide more then a kid in Water world.. Saloman, makes a nice hot weather hiking boot, that is great and not expensive. Anyway, there is so much to chose from out there that you need a bunch of money to get a good test going... Oh, Socks are also very important... I suggest the Rohner Socks made in Switzerland.. they kick all the others socks ass... great quality..

Guys and Gals,

Wellco Boots are great. and the customer service is hands down the best I have seen in all my 35 years on this planet. I purchased some combat infantry boots about a year ago, a couple of stitches pulled out when I was in the field. I called Wellco and explained the issue. They said they had made a new pattern for the particular boot I had and they would send me a new pair. Not only did they pay for the shipping (including next day delivery) but the department head called me at work to appologize for the issue. I was shocked to say the least. I asked if they could send me the same boots in desert color. " No problem" I received them 2 days later. 1 year later I ripped the boots on a piece of wire...called wellco again and they replaced the boots for FREE!

do yourself a favor and support this group of dedicated friendly employees!

Excellant... I'll try ordering a pair ASAP. I myself am someone who truely supports the custimer support aspect the most. That was a great story. In my business, I carry over these same traits even when the boot company doesn't, When they don't help, I change companies... Welco, sounds good..

What type of work are you using them for??? Patrolling. combat Ops etc... or just walking around the camp... I sell the Black ones to Police here in Geneva, and they seem to like them... Like I said, more mode with them though... I myself have tested them in the mountains and forest here in Switzerland, and although I find them comfortable, they will cause you to kill yourself because the slid on anything... I fell down walking in them on a mixed mude and rock track one day walking slowly with my kids... they laughed there little asses off at me and my back was almost thrown out....

I like my Oakley's... Got the regular black ones, they have been on my feet of and on for about a year+ and they are starting to show their age ;)
(leather and rubber is slowly ripping apart).

When I just had them, I took them with me on a trip to the french alps. They actually perfored pretty good on the snow when new.(yes I know they were not designed for this) As soon as I stepped inside it was like figure skating sometimes though... I wore them in the snow this past january, and I was slipping and sliding... then again there is hardly any sole profile left on the things.
I used a pair of Alt-Bergs in the Alps this year... great boots ;)

All in all I had a good experience with them... a Buddy of mine is currently on his THIRD pair in 4 months... first two were desert versions (sole wasn't produced right on first pair, and inside fabric came appart after 2 days on the second pair), His current pair shows about as much wear on the soles allready in oe month, as mine do after a year. Just a little FYI: he's at least 40 pounds lighter than me, and we probably walk about the same amounts on same type's of underground.
His experiences put me off of getting another pair.

So, the Oakley's: squeek, slip and slide, sole wares out fast.
But hey, they look cool ;)

As far as the Adidas boots go, don't know about the desert version, but the black ones are know for doing some slipping and sliding themselves too... a guy I know had the soles replaced with vibram's and that solved the problem though... but I think there are better options out there.

Now if you do't mind I gotta go put some laces in my new Magnum boots...
