XCR will be on the market for civilians soon...I'd like to try one :(

To be fair, we have no basis on which to judge whether the XCR is actually superior to the FN entry. After all, the XCR wasn't run through any of the tests.

Truth be told, they had no chance anyway. How were they, or any other small company, going to keep up with the mandated delivery schedule? If your team can't manage to remember to ship BFAs, how do they plan on delivering anything else to meet specifications, especially with the chaos of business expansion and tight delivery schedules?

I read the BFA thing was a fluke, and the guy who messed up was promptly fired. I think the XCR would have given FN a run for it's money, but in the end, FN already builds our M16 series, so I don't know how much trouble it would save them to just go with FN. I do know one thing, and that RA has been marketing their weapon better, while FN hasn't. What's that tell you? You never know. Also, the RA entry doesn't look as ass ugly as the FN.

I think everyone who mentions the "mising BFA" story is just repeating something they read on the internet. I also think that the XCR failed for multiple reasons..One of which was the BFA... but the BFA was almost certainly reason #17 on the list.

You hit the nail on the head dead on.

Mr. Watter's NEVER misses. "Hitting nails on the head is one of his many specialties." p-)

Of course, SGMGSG9 is biased since he works for FNMI.

Thank you Mr. Watters but lets not jump the gun,

Well technically not until, April 11th. Orientation @ 8:00 a.m. for two hours, then straight back to the "tunnels." p-)

The interesting question is: now that FN have won the SCAR contest, and the US Army has decided to throw open the competition for the M16/M4 replacement rather than just handing it to the XM8, will the FN weapon stand a chance of beating the HK one?

the two reasons for failing where the lack of the adapter, and the rails where slightly out of spec. Although many products that are popular like the arm sir aren't in spec either. but that has since been corrected, and seeing that i dont need a blank adapter i would mind if they forget to send one. only thing that remains is how does it take teh elements as it was thrown out of the competition before it was shot.

To me it sounds like whining over a lost contract. And what does US made add to the performance of the weapon. Give the troops the best available equipment no matter where it is from.

What about American-manufactured modified AK's from Arsenal Inc.? ;)

First, Alex is a very proud man and of course he thinks his creation is the best on the planet. He thought the same thing with the M96 which has had as many problems as the M series weapons. That said, they had the requirements for the test and failed to meet the basic entry reqs with supplying equipment. That sealed their deal right there.

That said, there are documents floating around out there that recount meeting minutes that lend very credible evidence that FN had an advantage over the other vendors out there. Meeting notes from the Army. There is also a document that details a preliminary evaluation of the SCAR. The time date stamp appears to be before the final anouncement of the SCAR getting the nod. I dont know if the other vendors got the same type of notice of faults and required fixes, but FN did. I have seen both of these documents, as have many of the other vendors that submitted samples. We will see what if anything comes of them.

And no, the guy who neglected to pack the BFA did not get fired. I ask that very question of Alex at SHOT Show.

I heard he was fired, but that's just range talk. Rumors always get the best of me. I hope sometime soon we can snag some picks of the FN SCAR in use, maybe (like the XM8) it won't look as ass-ugly when being used.
