It'll take a while to get into MSM (if it evere does). They're all ranting about the pope's death. . .

Im a bit skeptical as the only source is "cynical nation" also if there was a terroist scare reguarding one plane the passengers on the plane would probably not be aloud to use mobiles or other communication devices not to mention its ilegal to use a mobile airside in the UK.

On a side-note Malc, do you remember when the Scimiters were put on gaurd a few yrs back. I could never really see a practical use accept for press reassurance.

The Scimitars were put there as a detterent they were never intended to be used, probably didn't even carry live ammo.

Since I flew to Prauge that week it was nice to see some extra backup regardless. ;)

the main advantage of the scimitar is as an op point and its night vision capabilitys

I don't know but they obviously have good X-country performance which might have been useful in the event of an attack like the IRA rocket attacks launched from the outer perimeter. Even if they didn't have ammo for the 30mm cannon they still have a co-ax GPMG IIRC.
