the Ministery of Defense UK(MOD) order 5200 trucks from MAN, with an option of 2100 .
The production is a corporation with ÖAF (MAN Austria ) , MAN Germany and MAN UK .
The end-production is at Austria and England.

Umm woot .

Curious though, what other EU nations use these same trucks ? Just to get a feel for the standardisation point of view.

They are in use here (MAN model sx 2000) as the MLC-70 "road mat system" (Dutch: Wegenmatsysteem).
Most of the trucks used here are made by Daf and a couple of Mercedes ones are also in use.

Unipower did a similar 8x8, but went bust after the government brought Oshkosh tank transporters (shame on them). And now we have no UK owned truck manufactorers. :cantbeli:

If you get the chance have a search for the Unipower MH8875, bloody cool / mean looking thing :)

Given the some of the recent junk the armed forces have been saddled with British Industry needs to look long and hard at what its providing the quality and reliability and the cost.

Would i destroy any illusions when i say that this order is merely the counter- contract to the austrian Eurofighter buy???

MAN would most definately not have won otherwise against Oshkosh, S&S and Mercedes.

I thought MAN were German, not Austrian.

I thought MAN were German, not Austrian.
It is. But the investment goes to Austria for jobs, the production and so on.
