A combat simulator developed for the US military that "shoots" back, delivering an electric shock strong enough to knock down players, could be the next big thing for home-computer games.

Pretty cool if you ask me. :D

Good idea actually. Imagine if that was on counter strike. No more knife rushes...

Is Counterstrike a PC game?
I thought that Counterstrike was a console game that came from PC games like Infiltration.

pretty crap if you ask me,why not just play normal but have your mate stand behind you with a baseball bat,and when you get hit,he swings at you as hard as he can, then maybe you might just get the idea what it's like to be shot!!!

A video game can NEVER EVER EVER prepare you for combat!!!

I think the idea of shock is stupid but the video game simulators are actually pretty helpful.

US Tankers use them the same way pilots get sim time. The difference is that a whole tank platoon or better can train with a bradly unit virtually. It is awsome training and is much easier to observe and critique. It will never be a replacement for real field training, but definately has it's pros.
I haven't seen any individual soldier sims up close, but with the right set up, it has promise too. Especially in the marksmanship and "shoot/don't shoot" types of applications.

get you hands on VBS1.........really good for tactics, watching the enemy trying to flank you is amazing!!

I was refering more to the FPS shooters out there, and not flight sims etc ;)

I think that proper combat simulators are a great training tool, and it would be rediculous to think they would ever replace real out in the field training..

...except when we get big stompy robots etc :D

as for computer games.. counterstrike is a PC game, originally modified from the game Half-life.

edit: btw, might be hard to get your hands on VBS1.... iirc it was made by BIS who made Operation Flashpoint, which is a great game (albeit getting on a bit these days).. so something like the in-production 'Enemy in Sight' by Illusion (mafia, Hidden and dangerous) might be a nice buy in the future.

also weren't the (US) military replacing VBS1? i cant remember..

Operation Flashpoint and VBS1 rock :-)
Esp if you play them online frequently on a server with a fast pipe with the same bunch of mostly ex military blokes and use VOIP comms

LOL you're a braver man than me I wouldn't have dared to even try playing it on a 56k modem.

aye, gave up after a bit, because it was nearly always impossible apart from on the nearest of servers.

played it on LAN quite extensively however, and that's great fun :)

i got the Full Spectrum Warrior simulation, which has excellent graphics but terrible gameplay. Nice squad tactics and maneuvres, but overall the game disappoints.
