Thanx mate :-)
picture in top link is not of a pinz. it's either a pair of radically converted s&s fmtv's or a pair oshkosh hemmt's.

The reason why I said it was a Pinzgauer was that the admin guy Hood said it was but anyway thanks for correcting me :-)

Hey, Check this out (http://media.militaryphotos.net/photos/gulf_war_2_iraqi_freedom_army_special_forces/aal). If thats the same truck, someone else pointed out that thats not a pinzgauer and in fact a LMTV with a cut down cab. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/m1078.htm

For christ sake, I thought the vehicle was a 'Pinzgauer' but since posting this I have found out it is an LMTV and Royal if I want to call myself 'Operative' and not 'Operator' it's my business so don't try and flame me cos i'm sure your about as 'Royal' as the Queen's Corgi's.

I think you'll find the reason he call's himself Royal is because he is a Royal Marine. You can't deny that that's a pretty Royal thing to be.
Nice post by the way .. ;) .
when did fmtv's become lmtv's? anyway, i heard from a bunch of people that they're crap. expensive and high maintenance.
operative gordon, they say that you only get one opportunity to make a first impression... royal's a fixture in these parts and his participation on this forum has consistently been valued. may i suggest some thicker skin.

if by crap you mean run well, have great clearance and articulation, speed country and road, cargo capacity, funstionality, good power (not the best ever), excellant ascent/descent angle then yes the 1078 series is crap.
ibstolidude, i've had absolutely zero exposure to them. i've heard about their downside from motor pool old timers with lifetime membership in the deuce and a half fan club. they don't have much time for new fangled gizmos like ctis and all time awd. the m35 had become such a bread and butter item that there was bound to be resistance.
from a cross terrain mobility perspective the fmtv's sure look good on paper. i understand that the fmtv is s&s's adaptation of an original steyr design, and after the initial delivery there was a recall of sorts to fix cracks in the flywheel bell housing and snapped drive shafts and axles. these issues contributed to the bad rap. if the problems have subsequently been fixed, i'm glad to hear it.

Look all I wanted to do was give you fellas some bloody good pics to look at and not get into a stupid back and forth about minor details, i'm sure 'Royal' is a nice bloke but i'm 35 and I thought what he put was patronising but anyway lets move on. Ok 'maw' my first impression I was hoping to make was i'm a military enthusiast like all you guys and i've done a few cool things being a civvy, i've been to Afganistan and fired loads of weapons including AK, RPG etc, i've been onboard USS Peleieu and chatted to a load of Recon Marines (who were great guys). My brother used to be a Para and they are tough guys, ('Royal' will have something to say about that!) I would have joined with him but I have asthma. I will email 'Hood' and see if he will let me post the pictures of my travels. Rant over....

Is a HW team from 45 Commando engaged on Op Buzzard (29 May - 9 Jul '02)

http://www.operations.mod.uk/veritas/img/veritas/45cdogp/buzzard_lookout.jpg
are from the same Op.
As is

Which was discussed here before. The Chinook is from 27 Sqn RAF. As the sequence is from a VCP Op, I guess the Royal in question is from the Brigade Police Troop.

BTW Gordon - the term 'Operator' is used in the forces to describe... an operator, hence my comments.
Is this a HK?Lokks like some kind of MP 5 type?!

I am no wrench monkey...I am not mechanically creative enough to be...but the 78 series DID have problems when they were first fielded that included things like restricted drive speeds due to fly wheel housings and other more severe problems...ours (we had only 1) atleast had been quickly upgraded and the thing was a lot of fun and a go anywhere kinda truck..never even tried to fight from it though.....unfortunately the closest we ever got it to down range was carring AF pallets on it.
