The Tu-26 designation was false.

This aircraft is the 3rd model of the Tu-22M, though only the second two models entered widescale service. This is called Tu-22M3 Backfire.

It is a theatre bomber much like an F-111, yet has comparable installed thrust to the American B-1B. (50 tons thrust vs about 52 tons for the B-1B).

The Tu-22M3 and the Tu-160 Blackjack and the Tu-95 Bear are all getting upgrades of weapons and unified systems (radars and avionics) to add conventional weapons to the two larger aircrafts payloads.
