nice pics, i noticed in a picture with train cars there is only soldier wearing very bright uniform, maybe even desert camo. He really stands out from the rest of the soldiers - easy target.

Do you think Russian soldiers will ever go back to riding inside transport vehicles?
Nice pics, by the way, cheers Roman.

Sitting on top suggests that mines and IEDs are more of a threat than snipers where they are operating. Besides, you get better visibility from the top than inside. If the vehicle is attacked you have a better chance of seeing where you are being attacked from and might have a chance of getting off the vehicle and/or returning fire before the vehicle is hit.

What unit is that in those photos?
With their body size and ages, it shouldn't be OMON. So are they OMSN?

It wouldn't be SOBR since Roman said it they are not. And as far as VITYAZ goes, aren't they for counter-terror or hostage recuses (spelling)? If so, they actually do patrols?

I know why they ride on top, Gaz, particularly after the 1995 Grozny action. I just wonder whether we're likely to see a change in attitude regarding riding inside transports rather than on top, as up-armour kits become more widely distributed and applied.

AFAIK Russians rode on the armour back in Afghanistan....and even back in WW2....many reasons, including those taht Roman listed.
