The Finnish US Army grunt-wannabe is back with more questions :)

1.) How does one place a rank and a BOS insigna on the collars of their BDU? The rank on the left and the BOS insigna on the right?

2.) Were ranks worn on fatiques in Vietnam at all? I have only found one picture of a soldier with a large corporal insigna on the left sleeve of his t-shirt but none with soldiers who would have ranks sewn to the collars of their fatiques.

Thanks!

EDIT: typos

OK. Found the answer in this photo:

http://www.thespecialforce.com/images/dAD%27Sa-tEAM75DPIcopy.jpg

So the large colorful rank insignas were worn on the sleeves, either both or just one and the collar rang and BOS insigna go with the rank on the right and the BOS insigna on the left.

you're going to have to do a 'little' more research if all you can come up with is one picture?

interesting to note that the captain is wearing what appears to be ROKA captain rank tab over the center of his jacket.

based on the uniform and name/branch tapes, looks to be 63-65 timeframe

I also found some more info concernign the 3.rd pattern fatiques in Vietnam. Apparently soldiers were issued pin-on collar ranks, but judging from alot of pics, they were hardly used. Is this true?

The photo shows an A-Team in the mid 1960s. You can tell by the rank & type of jungle fatigues. Certainly by 1968 subdued rank was the order of the day. I suspect conventional troops were more interested in black chevrons or collar insignia. Special Forces wore camouflage in the field, not US Army fatigues.

That is the Vietnamese rank of Captain, or Dai Uy.

those are 1st and 2nd pattern jungle fatigues...
1st patt = exposed buttons on pox with epaulettes
2nd patt = buttons covered with epaulettes

Term for captain in Korean is 'Dae Wi' as well.

SF teams did not use camouflage uniforms exclusively.

Black on OD / Black on OD (1967)

Badges - Jump Wings, CIB etc

Color till 66

Subdued after that

Office Rank and Branch went from bright to subduded. (67)

Based on the insignia...I'd put it at 1965/1966.
