Does anyone know what the grunts think of it?

I remember doing a search a while back and coming across a forum for US military members and a bunch of grunts were saying that they thought it was a waste of money because it pretty much offers nothing over the current M-4/M-16A4. Fires the same bullet, uses the same attachments, etc.

It looks realy good.. but one question whats up with the G36 Magasine..Why don't they keep the M16 magasin i think it will be ****e with the G36 magasine.. Whats the point if u can carry half the ammo then before.. dont bash me for this but i tried the G36 airsoft model its a good weapon but the Magasin is just terrible.. even with a Doav Frome blackhawk i can only have 2x4 magasines

Can I have that in English now.... :|

Whats the difference between G36 mag and a M16, only difference i see is one is plasic with little things to attach other mags to and the other is aluminum.

Its cool.. Na its bigg different.. The G36 magasine is almoust twice the with of a M16 magasine..So in a Assult vest where u should be able to stock 3 M16 magasine u only get 2 G36 Magasine if u are lucky..And that realy sucks.. And the G36 magasine is a bitt higher to maybe a half inch or so..Thought u gues knew this :)

How does this weapons compare to the M-4 or M-16A4 as far as mounting additional equipment onto it?

It doesnt appear to have the rails that are usually seen on M-4's...

As i see it Xm8 is just a better version of the G36 and the G36 dosn't realy have any option to mount anything. As the XM8 is a G36 model i gues it uses the same design for now.. Exept the G36C who comes with a 3 small rails on the handguard..maybe H&K will come out with a RIS handguard to every model, if not they option to mount is non existing compared to a M4 with RIS/RAS/SIR..I seen G36 with Flashlights clamped to the barrel and stuff but that aint good enought..

A G36 is just as customizable as an M4 when given an RAS system. My guess is that the military will mount the XM8 with a similar rail system before issuing them.

newer seen that before.. cool must be kinda new but when the G36 was made there was no thought rail interface systems at all strange that is..(at least not issued)
I gues but adding a RIS to the Xm8 will cost much more money tho

Heres a 3d drawing of what the actual American version is supposed to look like.

Notice the rail system and M-16 magazine. It looks a lot better than the green POS in the first pics, IMO.

According to most of the real weapon masters on this site, that's an older design which was replaced by the current one.

It's not new. The G36 doesn't even require rails as it has a scope and reflext sight. The foregrip rail can mount flashlights, lasers or whatever is needed.

From what I hear, the scope/reflex unit on the G36 plain old sucks.

I'm starting to like it a lot. The optic on the XM8 includes a red dot sight that exceeds the aimpoint, includes an etched backup ret, plus an IR laser and illuminator. So you won't need an M68 or PEQ-2.

It's also meant to be simple and quick to clean, so no rails. There are attachment points, you can see those slots on the side, its a new and more simple design. The nice thing about those is that when nothing is attached, your handguard is already there (unlike RAS, so you don't need extra parts).

If really needed, they are making milstd 1913 rail adapters that will attach to those points on the XM8 handguard. But what else could you want? Just a flashlight maybe, and that will probalby use the new quick attach points. The XM320 GL has its own sights on the side I think, up front there's no more need for leaf sights, PEQ's, etc.

Xm8 will rule but is it only me who are conserned of the G36 Magasine and all the changes it will bring.. less ammo.. all new tacgear and all that stuff..

I heard the XM8 is to have integrally moulded mounting points as standard, so you don't have to start bolting rails to the side, so having to purchase an aftermarket RIS/RAS system won't be necessary. This is only what I've heard, could be wrong.

The sight unit is R&Ded by ITI, not much can revealed at this point about it.

The guy holding XM8 at the 2nd pic is one heck of experienced Ranger
(He's 'worked' since Grenanda). (He recently became 'former')
And he's been working on it too.
