you'd need to take out several loans to pay for ammo though.

Isn't it used on ships to destroy incoming missiles, or is that something else?

my guess would be some guys messing around. Look at the background, some kind of base. and its no ocean, looks really dead to me.

yeah i know for that particualr picture. But dont the US Navy actually have something similar on their ships to stop incoming missiles. Can't remember the name of it though.

You are thinking of the Phalanx radar controlled CIWS. and that aint it, that doesnt even look like US navy to me.

Thats it. Yeah i cam imagine it looks a bit different but is it the same idea ie a mini gun of some sort?

the phalanx isnt three miniguns, its one big bastard. 20mm i think, at something like 6000rpm

I'll take a Phalanx. 6000 rounds per minute of 20mm depleted uranium. :D

And the Phalanx is automatically operated by the FCS- it doesnt need anyone to tell it when to fire, if it detects a missile inbound, it kills it.

The phalanx is programed to fire at anything that comes in at a certain angle and a certain speed, and ship usually have two or three that covers different sectors.

And of course the ycan ba manually told not to fire if for example an aircraft HAS to approach from said angle... :)

Those are nice...
