Hey do the soilders buy all the gear for their gun or does THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA provide it.also do they buy their own gear like WEESATCH's and such if its not the INTERCEPTOR.basically i want to know what Uncle Sam gives them and what they buy themselves.

Depends.

Sometimes, prior to a deployment, troops can buy aftermarket equipment, within reason, and their unit will compensate them.

Other times, it is on your dime...

That has to be THE most HIGHLY modified M4 I've seen in combat.

Stupid question: Isn't it bad for the barrel if you set it on the parapet like that? Isn't that why the guy has a Harris bipod on the weapon?

they are ISSUED gear, and if they have funds available and are FAMILIAR with what the industry can provide... along with the notion that the equipment can help them do the job better, then they buy it.

Join up and find out yourself

what is so modified about it?

aside from the ducktape/ziptie reinforced paq4, johnson redimag, trijicon sight with killflash, flipup front sight that replaces the FSB.... the A2 grip is wrapped with unstripped 550 cord.... all told nothing really there that isnt available to the general AR owning public ... save for the PAQ and FA internals.

if you noticed the safety position.... chances are VERY good he had just set the carbine in position to sight through to some area beyond.

The barrel also looks to me like it's longer than 14.5".

That's what I mean. Add in the extended barrel, Harris bipod, and the handguard (don't know the name of it). All I'm saying is that most of the time you see an M4 with just an optic and a foregrip. The ocassional M203, PAQ, torch. I've rarely seen flipup front sights on soldier's weapons.

I don't think I've seen even SF or other SOF guys with that much kit on their M4s.

I know that.
