Thing is that you pay them more than they'd earn here because everything is more expensive in Norway. Then they come back here, where everything is cheaper, and it comes out that working in strawberries is a well paid job ;) And they don't care if they earn 1/4 of that what you'd earn - it's still a good business :P

just curious how much do they earn pickign strawberries?

But if i were you i'd buy Polish fruits and vegitables, we don't use any checmicals on our produce, its all natural and tastes 100 times better. Don't believe me go to Poland and try our food.

There have been a number of articles in newpapers about Polish prouduce pushing aside Western European b/c of cost and taste.

Its funny, Polish farmres were totally against joining the EU at first, but yet they're benefiting the most from it. Some have seen thier annual incomes go up as much as 50-80% depending on the size of the farm. think of it as buying into your hearts through your stomaches. p-)

Herrmannek

our farmers use chemicals, but because of costs, they don't use them in so big numbers as in EU...

just curious how much do they earn pickign strawberries?

About 3.5 euros per hour or about 5 us $ thats about 25% of a normal salary, but it's less poles who pick strawberries now than 10-15 years ago... now it's ukrainians and people from the former sovietunion who does it... because you earn better in poland now i guess ;)

We still get boatloads of Poles here. :| It got a lot worse after they left all those poor countries in the EU now that they can legally work here without any problems.

hey wholagun, nie gniewasz sie chyba o ten Boleslawiec??????

co ty.. Of course not!!! In all actuality I only visited the city for the frist real time this summer. I left poland when I was 4, my last memory of poland was sucking on mama's titie.

But Boleslaw does have Poland best ceramic stuff, its done using 400 year old tradition. Only a handful of places int he world still do it that way, and its expensive as hell, I know first hand b/c i bought some.

Cheap Polish labour, there is a problem with Polish workers being taken advantage of by fellow Poles or other W Europeans being paid **** and working really long hours. some work 17 hour long shifts, this is totally against the human rights code even for illegal immigrants. Poles wouldn't go to Western Europe for work if W europeans factory/farm owners didn't welcome with open arms. So easy to pay a Pole 1/4 less, without any benefits free of tax. I also heard that less and less Poles are comming to W Europe to work illegally

I know my uncle who's a doctor got a sweet deal from Sweden - free moving costs, free Swedish language lessons, lower house tax for 1 or 2 years, not to mention a salary that 5 tiimes bigger then in Poland. My uncle is considering leaving b/c Polish Ministry of Health is ****ing doctors over left right and centre. :cantbeli:

Either way in a few years poles no longer will work illegally.

In Canada i've noticed that Polish immigration has all but stopped there was a mass exudus in the 80s and early 90s but now Poles don't wnat to leave b/c of the EU and improving living standards at home.

rhino
04-14-2005, 08:45 AM
its not because of the EU, its because of the government tightening the screws on the migration, if you didn't notice its all about the flawor of the month, it depends on where, liberals feel, the people suffer the most at the moment, plus there is a quota on how many english and how many french speeking emingrants to allow in

Herrmannek
