USB GPS module for laptops

I was just wondering if any of you guys had used a device similar to this one?

And if so, does it work well, also, what is a good source for maps? (for free?)

I use something similar for my Ipaq and it works fine although it's not magical. It depends very much on l.o.s to the satellites and how many it can see.
Don't know about free maps. I use Tom-Tom and think it's good. A bit slow on a hand held but overall good.
