Had an FTX at Camp Rilea last weekend. They were conducting an air assault class at the same time. There were blackhawks flying overhead all day Saturday and I had a chance to snap some shots of them off-loading and loading troops late in the day Saturday (Day 1 of the school, assuming Friday was 0 day). I snapped a couple pics of the rappel tower used during the training as well.

I've also got a PM in to Hood to get a video of one of the Blackhawks hosted. All these pics were taken at 2272x1704, so if you want a hi-res of any of them, just ask.

Thanks Hood. And sorry for the shakey-cam. It was towards the end of the day of training and my arms were feeling it.

Nice pics. I hear Air Assault school is the toughest 3 weeks in the Army, does it live up to that rep? :)

Air Assault school is usually less than 2 weeks. And no its not that hard. The 12 mile ruck **** at the end is pretty tough though.

And BTW this isn't Air Assault School this is just a course of some sort held at the base.

AA school is held at Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii

No, it's one of the official Air Assault schools. We all thought it was odd too, being that Rilea is a National Guard base not an active duty base. This was the first part of the full 11 day course.

Hmm news to me, learn something new every day. Howd the FTX go?

It was great. Got a lot of excellent training from members of the Oregon National Guard unit that just returned from Iraq. We lucked out on the weather too. Has been real rainy and overcast lately, but it cleared up for us this weekend, with only some light showers.

I just got back from a 4 day FTX at MCB Pendelton Sunday night. Getting like 10 hours of sleep the whole time kinda outweighs being a squad leader.

Gold bond medicated foot spray is my bestest best friend

Gold Bond powder on the balls and inner thighs is also a "good" thing.

By far the hardest Army school is pre-CDQC/CDQC. A friend of mine graduated last year. Anyway, he recently saw the dive phase of that BUD/S DVD, and was amazed that the trainees were getting up to 5 attempts at events such as the one man comp. In the two CDQC schools the most they were allowed was 2 attempts, and for the most part one had to pass on the first try.

Air Assualt this summer will be held in more locations, with less slots open. B/c of the war there are a fewer amount of instructors and so less slots. At least thats what I have been told by my Cadre as to why we didnt get a slot this year. Somehow we got 5 Airborne slots though. Who knows
