The ymay have removed it to allow more freedom of movement in their arms. For those of you who have never had the "pleasure" of spending several very long days in full riot gear, it's VERY restrictive.

A lot of guys don't wear the complete sets of gear as it allows them to move a little faster when its needed.

True, they're not as low profile as one would think (trust me though, sometimes they can be very low profile). The Uniformed Division guys can be quite high profile. At one point the Service was very secretive though. If I remember right, when they were initially formed after 1865 to combat counterfeit, they were dubbed the Secret Service because the names of the few agents that made up this special branch of the Treasury department were a secret.
