www.cabelas.com has 'em.
The jackets are made by Polartec.

They send the fabric to Military and they make it. They use Polartec 300 series thermal-fr. I dont know if they sell them to the public though. So Cabela would be the next choice.

Weird. They no longer have the "SPEAR" 300 jacket, or I can't find it... They do, however, have the regular 300 jacket.
It's a nice jacket though, very comfy and warm.

I like my North Face Denali fleece. Big arm pit vents, 4 pockets, nylon on the elbows and upper chest/back. Little on the 'spensive side but well worth it IMO.

Get the one from Cabela's (it exactly like the USMC fleece) it has the velcro straps around the wrists... The SPEAR doesn't, any SPEAR you find for sale is going to be expensive, your gonna get hosed.
Cabela's item number is: TC-92-1873
It's $79.99 which is cheaper than US Cav or any of the other places are selling it for. They still have them, I ordered one for my girlfriend the other day.
FWIW: TNF gear is good, but over priced. They tack on $50 for a logo.

I have had the Cabela's jacket for a month or so and love it. It really keeps the wind off and holds body heat. The pit zips work great when you are inside and need to cool off, but don't want to take your jacket off.
I had it with me in the field a week ago and it got poured on. Within an hour or so it was bone dry again. Definately worth the money. My wife loves mine as well!

There's a reason all the arctic, antarctic, and Everest expeditions use North Face clothing and gear. Even if they get if for free, they wouldn't use it if they didn't trust it with their lives.
It's all about the outlets. I think I paid $90 for my Denali jacket and $40 for the vest. I'm not sure what the weight is of the fleece but it's thicker than any other I've ever seen.

I also saw a pic in the Afghan. album of an SF guy wearing a Helly Hansen. I thought that was pretty cool. Where I live all the snowboarders wear the H.H. stuff.

Boarders here wear all the snowboarding specific jackets like 686. I've been out of the snowboarding biz for awhile so I cant remember the rest. I have a North Face shell but I cant remember what type.

Yeah, all the high school and some college kids wear 686 and other boarding specific stuff. But people who are a little bit older and actually have to pay for their own clothing buy stuff they can use for a wide range of activities.
