That was Saddam and the Sunni Muslims of Iraq fighting the largely Shia Muslims in Iran. Now that the US has removed the Sunni Muslims from power in Iraq the majority of Iraqis can now have power. The relationship between Shia Iraqis and Shia Iranians is similar to the Othodox Christian Russians and Orthodox Christian Serbs, or the catholic irish and the catholic irish americans etc etc.
(Obviously the Iraqis are Arabs and the Iranians are Persian but religion is a greater tie than blood.)

The threat of the Shia Iraqis taking power and becoming more friendly to Iran was what stopped bush snr from helping the Iraqis after Desert Storm when he encouraged them to rise up against Saddam. When they did rise up the (sunni) Saudis suggested that a shia government was not in the US's interests so Bush snr left them to it and Saddam killed as many of them as he could. Including blocking waterways to make the marsh arabs just arabs in the south of Iraq.

So why are the Shia majority not fighting the US? Because they know they have a clear majority in people numbers. If the US removes the Sunnis from power and put in place a democracy then the Shia know they will control the country so they are letting the US do that for them. If the US started saying that it would stay, or started a war with Iran then I doubt the Shia would be so passive... they would probably try to remove the foreigners from their soil. The US would either have to butcher millions or simple leave.

Iran is under ****te rule, and Saddam was Sunni, so there was conflict. Now, the Shiite (the majority in iraq) are gonna rule iraq, some people fear now an Iraqi/Iranian treaty.

Supercomputer to Augment Research

TEHRAN, Nov. 5--Iranian engineers have managed to design a supercomputer which is expected to be able to meet the growing national demand for research sources.
Arash Jalalzadeh, executive director of the project, told ILNA that the 'national supercomputer' has been designed by the High-Speed Processor Research Center of Amir Kabir University, Tehran.
He said the project will receive state funds prior to start of the production phase.
"This super cluster is designed to become the first high-speed research service center in Iran," he said, adding that the supercomputer will provide various research and industrial centers across Iran with scientific data.
The expert further noted that Iran's national supercomputer is amongst the world's top 200 supercomputers.
"Iran is now one of the world's 25 countries capable of producing supercomputers," he said, adding that only seven Asian states have this capability.
Jalalzadeh said Iran has now acquired the technology of producing modern supercomputers and should seize the opportunity to introduce it to the world.
He, however, said poor coordination between academic and industrial centers in Iran remains the main obstacle to implementing high-tech projects,
calling on domestic industrial centers to trust the high capabilities of Iranian researchers and producers.
