Fox News is reporting that 46 Iraqis were killed while trying to Ambush American Troops in Central Iraq. They say they aren't sure where the number came from, since our military generally likes to stay away from giving body counts.

Thats one hell of an ambush they had planned then with 46,and that's just the KIA,they must've been going after a major target!!
Good news if its true, bad news if its a case of "collateral damage"!!
I sincerely hope its the former!!

46 killed 18 injured...I thought they didnt do body counts? Oh well thats getting shot up hard. Apparenlty 4 Iraqi's in a black BMW got busted with an RPG and were jailed also in the same city less then an hour later.
US 'kills dozens' in Iraqi city
The US military has reported killing 46 militants and wounding 18 in clashes in the central Iraqi city of Samarra.
Five US soldiers and a civilian were wounded in the fighting which raged as militants made a series of attacks on convoys in the city on Sunday.
Eight militants were also captured, US spokesman Lieutenant Colonel William MacDonald told reporters.
News of the fighting comes after a weekend of bloody ambushes across Iraq, largely targeting American allies.
Colonel MacDonald said the US forces had fought back with tank fire as they were attacked by militants wearing uniforms of the pro-Saddam Fedayeen fighters.
yeah, I saw it on cnn, so I came on here to see what you guys said. I hope are guys are ok.

I wonder if TF 20 was involved in this Op?

Ok isnt it kinda odd that all of a sudden they switch tactics?
Like normally they would attack n small numbers n leave asap, but 46 Iraqi's + 18 wounded is alot of people massed together for an ambush. Doesnt this go to show that they are getting more organized? Definately a head scratcher.....

So it wasn't one major ambush...they were repelling several ambushes that were occurring simultaneously???

Correct. But they screwed up and we caught them.
I think the moral of this story is you cannot beat us in large numbers.

Supposidly the convoy that was attacked was bringing new Iraqi dinars into that city so it definately was heavily guarded.
I wonder if TF 20 was involved in this Op?
Rather it looks like, that insurgents overestimated their capablities and attacked convoys escorted with Bradleys and Abrams tanks. American returned fire with everything they had.
Unfortunately, I think, that we can take as granted, that also civilians were killed in shootout. At least three buildings were destroyed or damaged.

I have my doubts about them over estimating, they've been pretty effective so far in most of their attacks, for 40-50 guys to attack simultainiously is the signs of coordination,as this was not an attack on a single convoy, but rather a series of attacks, perhaps the intel is beggining to pay off?
perhaps there was a counter ambush in place?By the sound of it these nutters were repeatedly attacking their targets, which is odd for an ambush, normally you hit hard and fast and bug out ASAP!!
Great morale booster for the troops on the ground over there tho, well done lads!!

I'm curious how long it took for US soldiers to extinguish those insurgents with supreme firepower :).

Take the speed of HE shell from Abrams, or Bradley, as an example.
Answer - well, it is quite fast.

It's great that the troops eliminated a large number of them this time, keep up the good work!
