Today, Vladimir Putin had signed an order to dispatch Russian soldiers as a part of UN's peacekeeping force in Liberia. I heard that it consists of soldiers from the 98th Airborne Division (VDV), and several officers.

Forum at www.vif2.ru decided that this is also about oil. Oil supertankers in general swim under Liberian flag. :)

They are indeed very professional.
Another important factor: VDV has long been a part of many UN peacekeeping missions around the globe, so they already know what to do.

Javehn:ha ha ha it is good
And what exactly?
Kingpin:The first we have ridden in Kosovo. And in Bosnia we were in accordance with general practice. Without any objections on the part of other.
Besides we were in structure of peacemakers in many countries of Africa - but there were present in basic our pilots, therefore in press about it was a little.
Javehn:That that the Reddish army arrived in Africa not absolutely was with the mandate of the United Nations...
I just spoke about Kosovo, I ask apologies.
Kingpin:No, you have not caught. The Russian helicopters and the Russian pilots were used and used in OOnovkih missions in Africa

Make sure you post photos here if you guys find any of this deployment on Russian websites... I do my best to navigate some of those, but it's mostly just trial and error... I'm always looking for anything that starts with "фото" ;)

I know I know! to show up the Americans to "Handle their mess for them" as it were...Liberia is really America's responsibility but if the Russians are gonna deal with it...I mean, you're never gonna hear the end of it.

You probably don't understand that our guys are being sent as a part of UN forces. They were deployed many times in peacekeeping missions: Kosovo, Tadjikistan, Moldova, Georgia, Armenia. And they did a pretty good job. I heard many positive things from Americans, Brits and others, about our peacekeepers in Kosovo.

Although our march to Pristina airport was a very interesting thing ;)

Speaking of which, Americans, who were supposed to get that airport were so pissed off, they were getting ready to attack the base with....SF. A whole plane full of them took of from Germany next day after the capture of the base, but something happened with the plane and they had to return. When they were ready for the next trip the presidents of the countries talked the matter over and things were settled. It was Yeltsin and Clinton, and Clinton was the one who gave the order for an attack in the first place.

And I am not sure what SF would do agains a division (?) supported by mechanized units, but then again they would probably have air strikes and stuff. :-*$

I seem to remember that it was British troops that were ordered by the US region commander to attack and take the airport from the Russians. The British commander basically refused the order. I think the British commanders name was Michael Jackson... no relation to the weirdo. He sounded quite sensible. In fact in their hurry to get to the airport the Russians were a little short on supplies, so the British commander ordered his troops to share their rations. As he said they were going to have to work together anyway, so they might as well work as a team.

General idea is right, though you have practically every detail wrong. It wasn't Clinton who gave the order, but Wesley Clark, the Supreme Commander of NATO. Not USSF, but British and French paratroopers. A whole planeload DID NOT take off, but were put on standby. And K-FOR's British commander General Jackson told Clark he wasn't going to start World War 3 for him.

Quite hilarious when in the beginning of the movie, the russian paratroopers land on the school's yard rofl

Somewhere around there was a thread with some short memoirs from Royal about this incident.

I thin the flagged Oil Tankers is a good bet, but just out of curiosity, WHy would it be America's mess? I am familiar with Liberia's rather interesting history, but I am not familiar with some sort of "evil involvement" by America.

This being the same Wesley Clark which, according to the polls, is the only Dem with a Snowball's chance in hell of becoming president?

If so...I would love for the Republicans to make this little incident more public if/when Clark starts campaigning.

Not too sure which polls you are looking at...Clark will never get the nomination. As a conservative, not a republican, I would love to Lieberman and Clark ona ticket together. They are both nuts and not too liberal.

Trust me, on the far off chance Clark does become the candidate, they will let the people know. :)

Yep. Mr. World War 3(almost) himself. It's already being bounced around in pundit discussions. If he gets the nomination, it'll probably be full-blown then.
