I noticed an error in the article.
At the team house Tirach found Sfc. Michael W. Craig, Willoughby's team sergeant, Sergeant Thompson, Sergeant Burke, and about fifty CIDG and mobile strike force soldiers.
A-101's Team Sergeant was SFC William T Craig not Michael W. Craig. Goes to show that even CMIH doesn't always get the facts straight.

You need to get out of the box and get a breath of fresh air. :P

Amazing story, really great read, eventhough it was a bad event.Thats Schungel guy sounds like one tough taker. Built like a brick sh*thouse.
What exactly does one categorize as a misfire with a LAW ?
There seem to be a lot of references to LAW's misfiring, is that failure to explode when impacting target, or failure to leave the tube?

On the show, they said that a bunch never even fired, and a couple that did did nothing to the tank, or just bounced off and exploded up in the air.. Pretty unfortunate really. Could have saved some of those guys lives if the LAWs had been working properly. Thanks for that heads of 11f5s too, i went over to my moms and watched it right after i saw your post :D

A failure to ignite the propellant in the rocket motor. Dampness was usually the culperit.

You're welcome.....I didn't get to see it as I don't get the Military Channel on my cable. :(
Anyone read Night of the Silver Stars? Thoughts?

If i read correctly , the LAW was designed in the 60's, so it was the first time it was used in battle in such a continuously humid climate ?
11F5S, you could probably answer this one, What things did soldiers do other than store them dry, to keep the dampness out while out battling?
Plastik bags, duct tape ?
Did later versions specifically attack this problem ?

I'm was saying you need to get more oxygen to your brain cells. There weren't any SEALs at Long Vei...it was a Special Forces A-Camp (A-101, 5th SFG).
As far as I know the Military Channel doesn't do fiction.

The three men eased back into the bunker as a voice called out in English from upstairs.
"We want to speak to your captain. Is he still there?"
Fragos replied defiantly, "Yes!"
"Have you got a weapon?"
"Yep!"
"Do you have ammo?"
"I've got plenty for you!"
All three fired their Ml6's up the stairwell.

Everyone knows the real victories in Nam were fought by the ANZACS, i mean how many countless times did we save your arses..
p-)
All you needed in this situation would have been half a coy to fight the enemy, and half a coy to extract the GB's. Then a few medics to patch up broken egos and the likes ;)
I still love you 11F5S

According to "The Siege at Hue" NVA/VC forces never used any armor (at least to the author's knowledge) during the Hue siege.
Another instance of armor being used by the NVA was during the siege of an SF camp at Ben Het. Luckily, the defenders were told ahead of time about the siege and defeated the armored advance.
