Royal, hello there,i am a big fan of yours,i have had the lovely experience of coming in contact with a few brits.which is where i lived before i moved to the US.I wanted to ask you because it seems you are a BTDT,are there any black memebers of the Royal Marines,SAS,SBS.Do you know if there are black RAF pilots.Just wanted to know to satisfy my curiosity.I did some research and found out that here in the US you did not have any black naval fighetr pilots and only 8 blacks in the Navy SEAL's and so i just wanted to know the stats on the British side on things. This is no thread to disrespect you. Please let me know if you can

British army is forever geting into trouble with the campaign for racial equality over numbers etc they can't recruit enough ethnic minorities. But I have met Black Paratroopers, Gunners, Doctors , Nurses, engineers Army air corps helicopter pilots, (not sure about RAF or FAA but suspect yes)The SAS has a history of having Fijian troopers who have been highly decorated including one of the guys killed at Mirbat in oman.

The Royal Marines and the Parachute Regiment have always been 'meritocracies' so have both long included black members. There was a period in the 17th century in the UK when blacks were accepted in all levels of society. There are a couple of paintings in the Royal Marines Museum in Southsea showing black Marines in that period.

I know for a fact that black Marines and Para's served in the Falklands - my training screw was black and had served with 42 Commando there. As Mark mentioned, the Regiment has a history of accepting Fijians (who have served with great distinction). There are now several Gurkhas serving with the Regiment and there have been black Troopers over the years.

To the best of my knowledge we have never had a Black SC, although there have been a number of Aisans badged.
