First, the story behind it...today's article on BBC News:

Fury as Serbs boo Bosnian anthem

Nato commander Steven Schook (l) has backed defence reform
A group of Bosnian Serb army recruits has booed the Bosnian national anthem and refused to pledge allegiance to Bosnia at a swearing-in ceremony.
The recruits were the first ex-Bosnian Serb soldiers asked to swear loyalty to the Bosnian state since the Bosnian civil war of 1992-1995.

Under the peace accords that ended the war, an autonomous, Serb-run republic was established within Bosnia.

Bosnia and the international community strongly condemned the troops' actions.

During the ceremony the troops and their families jeered and whistled as the Bosnian national anthem was played.

When they were required to recite an oath of allegiance they instead uttered a pledge to the Bosnian Serb republic.

Protest condemned

The ceremony was the first since Bosnian authorities decided in 2003 to unify the country's armed forces.

Unification under the banner of the central state was intended to strengthen Bosnia as a nation, after years when the Bosnian Serb Republic and the Muslim-Croat Federation stayed largely separate.

The international community was quick to condemn the soldiers' protest.

The Nato commander in Bosnia, US General Steven Schook, called it "an illegal act", adding that the Bosnian Serb military was still influenced by opponents of reconciliation.

In a joint statement, the European Union, Nato, the US and the international envoy to Bosnia, Paddy Ashdown, insisted:

"The [Bosnian Serb Republic] must realise that it is an entity and not a state, and can only exist within Bosnia-Hercegovina....

"These events have to be taken very seriously as they indicate a deeper problem."

Bosnian Serb Defence Minister Milovan Stankovic condemned the protest and attempted to distance the republic's government from their actions.

before, everyone used to pledge allegiance to Yugoslavia, to protect it and upholds its laws. It turns out that only the Serbs really meant it.

As if anyone would be remotely concerned at a US General declaring anything an "illegal act". Perhaps he could point out exactly with section of the Geneva Accords was violated by these actions.

I am glad this happened it shows the world that it is not Serbs politicians but Serb people who want Republika Srpska to be independent to have its own army police and gowernment.I think Serb people should decide on referendum if Republika Srpska should be part of BiH or independent country.If Albanians from Kosovo can ask for its independence I dont see reason why Serbs in RS can't do the same thing.

NATO: STANKOVIC HAS UNTIL WEDNESDAY TO REPORT ON EVENTS IN MANJACA AND BILECA


SARAJEVO, April 18 (FENA) – RS Defence Minister Milorad Dodik has until Wednesday to file a report to NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo Commander General Steven Schook , High Representative Paddy Ashdown and BiH Defence Minister Nikola Radovanovic concerning incidents during the military induction ceremonies in the RS on April 16, Schook said at a press conference in Burmir Camp on Monday.

Schook said that Stankovic needs to submit a full report on why a group of young recruits and under whose leadership decided not to take an oath to BiH, as defined by law, and who is responsible for those events.

This being a violation of the Defence Law adopted in December 2003 having not known about the incident cannot be an excuse for no one and the NHQ Commander will request the repeat of the military induction ceremonies. According to him the violation of the law, especially by the army, is the worst think that can happen, and these events could not have come at a worse moment for BiH because NATO ministers are scheduled to meet in Vilnius, Lithuania on April 20-21.

“One issue on which NATO, OHR and ICTY Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte constantly insist on is efficient control of the armed forces at the state level, but these events have shown that the state, as well as the entities, do not have control over them”, Schook said. He added that efficient control of the common ministry of defence at the state level now seems more important then at the start of his mandate.

General Schook is very disappointed not only with the fact that reaction from the RS to these events has missed out, but also with the fact that there are destructive elements in the RS that can influence the armed forces. However, he did not have proof that soldiers rehearsed this before hand, even though there are indications that this is exactly what happened.

“More important than this event is how will the leadership of BiH and the RS react, how will they investigate and what recommendations will they make for sanctions against those responsible for events in Bileca and Manjaca”, Schook said.

Sooner you realize that little bit less then 50% of population doesnt like idea of one government army and police(Not only Serbs but others to) it would be better for everyone.BiH would be able to function as two entities each with its own national guard police and gowernment on local level.Look at Belgium how many parliaments they have or look at some other countries wich each province has its own police force.

Yes in some of them I have seen the same, that is right but not all of them, you can also see regions in Germany in atlas , and that is not issue problem is that serbs (some of them) still dream of joining serbia with RS, by integration of army and disapirance of RS defence and interior ministry those dreams will finaly come to end, even greatest dremer will wake up, that `s why we have incidents like these, I`ll just reminde you that mentonig of BH flag, anthem, and such was mission impossible only 6-7 years ago now it`s every day thing even if some hate that fact, if I have said that serb officer will read text where it stands I pledge that we will defend Bosnia Her....
