'Mad Max' Fan Convoy Ends in Arrests; Group Brandishing Fake Machine Guns

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Eleven people were arrested after alarming San Antonio motorists with a costumed convoy to a "Mad Max" movie marathon. Convoy participants say they were re-enacting a scene from "Mad Max Two: The Road Warrior" -- set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland -- when the arrests happened.

The group was headed to San Antonio from nearby Boerne (BUR-nee) on Saturday morning when police received several calls from motorists. The calls reported an apparent "militia" was surrounding the tanker truck. Witnesses told police the eleven brandished fake machine guns as they surrounded a tanker truck. About 25 people participated in the convoy and more than twice that number were expected to attend the movie marathon, which was canceled after the arrests.

Police charged nine people with obstruction of a highway and two others with possession of prohibited knives in addition to obstruction of a highway. Convoy organizer Chris Fenner called the arrests unfair.
