Prague. 1945. Alexander Zhuravlev (in the center)
Zhuravlev Alexander Grigoryevich, a Hero of the Soviet Union, Lieutenant and a commander of platoon, took part in the Stalingrad and Kursk battles, force-crossed the Dnieper River, liberated Poland, fought for Sandomierz, Berlin and Prague.Alexander Zhuravlev went to the front at the age of 30; in peace time he held a responsible post at a Moscow plant. Certainly, he could be entrusted with a command of a battery, not only a platoon. Yet his sight was failing. This, nonetheless, allowed him to see certain good things at a difficult time of the war, to see regularities in what appeared to be mere coincidences and to analyse the reasons and the consequences of the events during the war. When he is asked what is the secret of longevity he says: "You should just live!"
