Good luck, and take care future 11 Bang, Bang Bush Beater.

Take good care of your feet, take a camera. Check the Army site on Ft. Benning Georgia, and BCT/AIT. Your 00R Recruiter should have some vids of both.

A few things, You will miss home, you will get tired, you will feel alone at times. This is all normal. Just pay attention, learn, and stay out of a debate of any kind with the DI’s. Learn to say Yes Drill Sgt., No Drill Sgt. And pay very good attention to when you are saying what to them.

With live fire, and the M-16 always, always button your BDUs to the top, and keep the weapon pointed down range.

Always keep water in your Canteen, never drink all your water, and try to keep it full (any chance you have fill it up).

Try and have fun. It can be great fun if you let it be. If you think of it a Summer camp for Pussies then your thinking in the right direction.

Oh, and know how to count to 50 correctly. 1 Drill Sgt, 2 Drill Sgt. 3 Drill Sgt. By week 5 you can 1 Drill Sgt, 2 Drill Sgt. 3 Drill Sgt., 3 and 1/3 Drill Sgt. 3 and 2/3rds Drill Sgt. ;-)

just keep ypur head up man. i graduated 1 yr ago today. its not really that hard if you focus on learning. the only thing that really kinda sucks is some of those damn hills. also, memorize some of your favorite songs, gives you something to do on road marches. only other thing i can tell you is to have fun. cuz it is, in a sick and twisted way...

Best piece of advice I can offer, don't try to out-think the program. No matter how stupid/juvenile/ridiculous/redundant it may seem; there is a reason for everything they put you through.

Accept, Learn and Move On.

Congrats and good luck!

The only thing that was tough for me to get used to at Ft. Benning was the humidity. The entire time I was there, it was always around 95%.

Other than that, it was the best decision I have made in my life.

Good luck, and watch out for the lizzards! (Those little suckers were everywhere)

thanks for all the advice! anyways, i was wondering if there would be a way for me to contact people at my hometown while im at benning like during personal time? also, anyone have a rough idea of the itenary of the training? thanks!

I'm not certain my answer will be the best or most accurate since I was there about 15 years ago.

When I went through everyone was allowed to make personal calls for about an hour once a week. Now this is not an hour per person, but about 5 or 10 minutes tops. Get used to writing letters (kind of like email but lower tech ;) )

Itenary really doesn't mean much, the time blurs together and goes by quite quickly.

Again, this was from 15 years ago, so take this info for what its worth.

Last I knew was you had two weeks lock down. But as dbusack said this info is dated. Ask your recruiter for this stuff. Did you check the army home page. Also check www.goarmy.com you can ask questions there, and get back with us.

Basic Combat Training
THE NINE-WEEK JOURNEY FROM CIVILIAN TO SOLDIER

Basic Combat Training (BCT) is a nine-week training course (not including the "Reception" week) where recruits go through the process of becoming full-fledged Soldiers. Throughout the process, you will learn new rules, learn to trust yourself and understand what it means to be an Army of One.

Photo of a recruit carrying a backpack WEEK 00: RECEPTION
This is where your civilian life becomes part of the Army world—from bidding farewell to family to getting your Army haircut to making sure you're physically fit.

Photo of Drill Sergeant in front of recruits at dusk WEEK 01: FALL IN
Once Reception Week completes, it's now time to understand new rules, regulations and processes involved in being in the Army. Classroom instruction begins.

Photo of recruit climbing a wall WEEK 02: DIRECTION
Leaving the classroom for the field, it's time to test your physical and mental endurance, and also get trained in First Aid and map reading.
Photo of recruits sparring with pugil sticks WEEK 03: ENDURANCE
One thing you'll realize in Week 03 is to believe in the mantra: mind over matter. Physical and mental challenges build as you start simulated combat drills.

Photo of recruit looking through scope of rifle WEEK 04: MARKSMANSHIP
Learning to shoot a rifle is more than pulling the trigger. Marksmanship courses teach new recruits not only the proper way to hold a weapon, but also how to breathe and stand while firing are equally important.
Photo of recruits on an obstacle course WEEK 05: TRIALS
This is where the previous weeks' work pays off: tests in endurance and marksmanship await all recruits.

Photo of recruits approaching a firing range WEEK 06: CAMARADERIE
Each recruit is only as strong as his platoon. During Week 06, bonds are tested and trust exercises implemented.

Photo of a recruit doing pushups WEEK 07: CONFIDENCE
Hand grenade training; live fire exercises; foot marching; and overall physical fitness are tested in the Confidence Course.

Photo of recruits marching with backpacks on WEEK 08: VICTORY FORGE
It's time to put everything you've learned up to this point to the real test: a three-day field retreat to Victory Forge.

Photo of recruits in Class A uniforms WEEK 09: GRADUATION
All your hard work has led you to this day. Family and friends eagerly await to see you complete your

I see they have BCT again. Thank god.

Thats just basic.

Just learning how to walk, and talk like a new soldier.

AIT is the real fun. You learn to be a almost real Grunt then.

Once you get in a unit, after working with them for a bit, you’re a true blue (powder blue) grunt.

Good luck man... 11B scholl should be everything you want it to be. But it will be tuff. When you get your Infantry Cords after AIT, you will be two things, tired and half way there. As in you still have to get to your unit and kick ass. Don't let the little **** get you down. And do what your told to do. Stay out of trouble, and keep your **** together. You will learn more in the next 4 months, then you did all of High School, and since your ROTC, don't talk about it. That might get you a few extra puch-ups. Are you going to Jump School afterward?? Hate to be a LEG 11B. That would really suck. Don't let them talk you into MIKE School or Hotel School. If you get the chance, volenteer for the Ranger Bat. Beets being a LEG Officer. Anyway, good luck and let us know how things are going when you get the chance. Oh, if you get the chance, don't let us know, get some sleep...

First of all, congratulations!
And a question: are you sure you signed up for 11B? Last i heard it was all 11X training.
But anyways, I think you picked good time of the year to go through. I went through same time you did and loved the weather, untill it got really hot by the end of the AIT but i didnt care since it was near graduation (until I found out that I have to stick around 2 more weeks for 11C2 school :))). With the right mindset and good friends it was easy, my only really negative memories were getting stung by a swarm of ground wasps lol. Dont expect a break between the end of Basic and start of AIT. We found out we're done with Basic and are into AIT when our Drill told us while we waited in chow line.
Good luck!

If I remember correctly we weren't allowed to have a camera. The only pictures I have are the "official" platoon pictures. Confirm with your recruiters on that one, but even if they say yes, dont be surprised if it get confiscated in the reception :)

When I was there they confiscated everything that we had that was electrical or battery driven.
