Obviously, Sir Scott choosed the PC crapola version of the story:
It is unfortunately a rare occasion when a Muslim filmgoer can leave the theater feeling good about a movie's portrayal of Islam," said CAIR National Communications Coordinator Rabiah Ahmed, who also attended the Los Angeles screening. "This film managed to show the horrors of war without associating those horrors with a particular faith or culture." Ahmed thanked Fox for its screening of the film and for taking care to avoid religious stereotypes.

Sir Ridley Scott, the Oscar-nominated director, was savaged by senior British academics last night over his forthcoming film which they say "distorts" the history of the Crusades to portray Arabs in a favourable light.....
Academics, however - including Professor Jonathan Riley-Smith, Britain's leading authority on the Crusades - attacked the plot of Kingdom of Heaven, describing it as "rubbish", "ridiculous", "complete fiction" and "dangerous to Arab relations"......
"It sounds absolute balls. It's rubbish. It's not historically accurate at all. They refer to The Talisman, which depicts the Muslims as sophisticated and civilised, and the Crusaders are all brutes and barbarians. It has nothing to do with reality."
Prof Riley-Smith added: "Guy of Lusignan lost the Battle of Hattin against Saladin, yes, but he wasn't any badder or better than anyone else. There was never a confraternity of Muslims, Jews and Christians. That is utter nonsense."
Dr Jonathan Philips, a lecturer in history at London University and author of The Fourth Crusade and the Sack of Constantinople, agreed that the film relied on an outdated portrayal of the Crusades and could not be described as "a history lesson".
He said: "The Templars as 'baddies' is only sustainable from the Muslim perspective, and 'baddies' is the wrong way to show it anyway. They are the biggest threat to the Muslims and many end up being killed because their sworn vocation is to defend the Holy Land.".....
Prof Riley-Smith added that Sir Ridley's efforts were misguided and pandered to Islamic fundamentalism. "It's Osama bin Laden's version of history. It will fuel the Islamic fundamentalists."
Amin Maalouf, the French historian and author of The Crusades Through Arab Eyes, said: "It does not do any good to distort history, even if you believe you are distorting it in a good way. Cruelty was not on one side but on all.".......

Well, he ruined the Iliad, why not move on to better documented history?

What amazes me is that my history teacher had the balls to say that Troy was historically correct. :fork:

BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA rofl
You know...I doubt we are going to see a sudden increase in muslamie terrorist attacks because of this film :)
Perhaps the real story is this...how is it that a religion that was as enlightened as Islam and a religion that was as closed minded and bigoted as Christianity have managed to do an about face? It is now Christianity that has become enlightened and Islam that has become closed minded and bigoted.

Well, Helen did go to Troy with Paris.
There was a war.
There was a horse.
Troy lost.
Achilles and Hector both die.
.....I guess to an extent it was accurate.
As for KoH....were any of you really expecting anything close to historically accurate?

Who did? Troy was directed by Wolfgang Petersen, not Ridley Scott. Scott has never done an Iliad film.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0332452/ <-- Troy
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000631/ <-- Scott's work.
Petersen, on the other hand, directed the Never-Ending Story, which goes a long way to explain Troy...

Looks cool. I'm gonna see it, I don't care about historical accuracy in something this old.

Calling a fictional, mythical story historically correct is pretty silly though.

Hehe, there are Greeks out there who'll bet on every Maria in Athens that the Iliad portrayed an historical event.
Edit: grammar

Both religions have their bad apples and insane fundamentalists... well to be honest most mainstream religion is closed minded and bigoted.

The best thing about that whole article is:
It sounds absolute balls.
Is that a common British saying? I'm going to start using it!
NN
Newsflash: It's a frigging movie!
Since when did Hollywood produce historically accurate films? The motion picture industry reaps its billions by distorting reality, not depicting it. If you want to see the real deal, there's always the History Channel. ;)

If Scott did do a picture offensive to muslims he'd end up like the Satanic verses author or the dutchmen stabbed to death on his bike.
There is no harm in offending christians though.

Errol Flynn wore tights and still got laid a lot. Hollywood takes a lot of **** for entertaining people. I'm sure 418 websites will spring up calling attention to the innacuracies in KoH, almost as many as BHD. Simmah don.

The Crusades were so complex a phenomena that you can't even begin to describe them accurately in a hollywood film.
Islam VS Christianity is an extreme simplification of the subject.

Come to think of it, people make fun of Christians a lot, and Christians just take it in stride, like that "Proof that Jesus was Puerto Rican" gig.
Try doing "Muhammad's love child" and you'll get decapitated.
Reckon it's because Christians are a bit more circumspect than Muslims in matters of faith.

My Art History talks about the superiority of Muslims during the Cursades for a while, quietly talks about Spain, and then she had to ask me who the Apostles were. :|

Calling a fictional, mythical story historically correct is pretty silly though.
It was a mythical story about a REAL event.
There was no mythology.
Not too sure where that leaves us, but what the hell.
The mythology is the COOL part about the story. I mean come on, Agamenmon is a bad ass....he sacrifices his child to the gods to bring the winds to sail his boats.
Its watered down for the dumb.

The preview I have seen is pretty cool...
The hundreds of catapults spewing pitch covered fireballs by the thousands, while a cinematic vision, is hardly historically accurate.
I have to admit though, every time I see orlando Bloom I think "elf".

There was no mythology.
It was both. Iliad is the one of the oldest pieces of literature that was based on some verbal stories dealing with real events of the Achaian conquest of Aegaean in circa XIV BC. As it is literature it involves a LOT of mythology. Gods of Olympus help and advise mortals on a daily basis in there...
Troy... well all I can say, It's the perfect example on how Hollywood deals with history and literature... It's nothing new, it's always been like that... :| ... but anyway the good part is that this movie was done at all... instead we could get a Troyan Pokemon... or A Little yank on Priam's court. There is never that bad that couldn't be worse... :|

I just dont understand why people on this site cant enjoy a movie...if one little detail is out of place you guys jump all over it...fact is...Ridely Scott isnt trying to be historically accurate...he is trying to entertain...and while Gladiator and Troy arent accurate...it is still entertaining none the less...If you go into KoH thinking you are going to see an accurate representation of the Crusades..then you are going to the wrong movie...you have to go to Ridely Scott movie's with the right mindset...some on this site say the movies are "watered down for the dumb"...I definately think they are targested to a broader audience which can be interpretted as "water down" but still...Seeing Russell Crowe plung two gladius' into a guys chest...walk away and then come back to behaed the guy is still damn entertaining..If you want to watch an itellectual movie...go see something else...like Momento or A clockwork orange...

Exactly. How is KoH "anti-Christian"? Orlando Bloom is Christian. And he's the hero, NOT Saladin. The "good Christians" end up allying with the Jews and the Muslims and defeat the "bad Crusaders"... whom the show makes some effort to distance from the "good Christians." Historically inaccurate? So what? It's not by any stretch "anti-Christian". Some people need to get over themselves.

The Somali warlords paid there men with powerful narcotics. The time in whitch BHD started was the time of day when they take the drugs putting them at the highest state. So ya they do become crazy gun totten retards.
