Could you guys give me every tip you could possibly think of for fitness training. I am planning on taking a shot at the RM, you have no doubt heard this before but I am deadly serious about this. I have every intention of getting there and any advice would be appreciated :)

Run. You don't need to be fast, just run. You'll build up distance and then be able to run faster for shorter distances. Also, start out slow and buy a good pair of running shoes! Run faster than a jog but not a sprint (run all day pace) and start out running every other day, one stress fracture can ruin your hopes of RM. You can do push-ups/pull-ups/sits-ups/free weights/bench or go to the gym. It will help but running is key.

Thanks chuck and Evan, I think the pull-ups will be worse so I have to concentrate on my upper body. My legs are as strong as can be so I pretty much have to concentrate on running and upper body strength.
Evan, a food plan would help a lot. It's been too long since I qualified for my trainers certificate so your help would be great :)
I'll pm you tommorow after I get back from the gym in the morning :)

It takes a lot of time to get in peak physical condition. Depending on how fit you are right now, you can progress towards tip-top shape.
Plenty of long-distance running. It may take time to improve distance and speed.
Work with weight-lifting to add muscle strength and mucle endurance. Push-ups, sit-ups, glute hams, arm curls, squats, bench press/incline press, calf raises...just remember to work the opposite muscle everytime (For example...if you do arm curls for bicep, then do bench press for tricep)
Don't let it all be work though. Have some fun, throw in a few excercises that are helpful. Have a day set aside every couple weeks to play a long, hard game of soccer, tackle football, basketball, etc.
You MUST conduct physical training at least 3 times a week to maintain good health & fitness. Also allow time to rest sore muscles...I like to work every 2 days.
A reminder: Eat healthy...remember 2-3 servings of meat. 2-4 servings of fruit. 3-5 servings of vegetables. 6-11 servings of bread. A DAY! Take multi-vitamins. Drink LOTS of water...beer seldomly. ;)
Hope this helps, good luck man.

the TF dude got it down pretty good.
The most important thing is to stay motivated and acctually get out and excersize a few times a week.
When it first came out I bought and read McNab's BRAVO TWO ZERO, and whenever I get cold, tired, hungry, miserable etc. in the field or while doing PT, I think about that patrols accomplishments and suck it up. That has help me alot, and it might helpo you to have a "role model" to look up to.

From reading this thread I'm thinking you need to get a subscription to Runner's World. ;)
My pal Fred the old SEAL Team 2 chief got in his Jeep the other day to go home, the top was down and it was cold and had started to rain and this dink I work with say's aren't you going to put the top up? He just grinned and said "SEAL's don't mind a little water..." Cracked me up.

My personal advice:
If possible, go into mountains for a 2-3 day trip. Take a back-pack, tent, food. But try to limit yourself on food and water. Change your position each day, and try to go longer distances.
Same can be applied when going into the woods.
That exercise will give you a combination of everything: physical fitness, endurance and mental strength.
