McCabe Avenue Shooting Leaves One Critically Injured

DAYTON, Ohio --A 19-year-old is in critical condition Wednesday after police said his girlfriend shot the man.

Police arrested the woman around 9 p.m. Tuesday night outside the Hilltop Homes on McCabe Avenue in Dayton.

Officers said the girlfriend told police that she and the victim fought over the gun when it fired in the street. Officers said the victim and the woman have a small child together.

This will probably end up as part of an anti gun statistic about accidental shootings of children. Ignoring the probable fact that the gun was owned illegally - can't be sure from the limited description, but it's likely it was a handgun, which can't be legally purchased by anyone under 21. I also wonder if we'll hear if either of these people had any kind of criminal record. You don't usually hear about law abiding couples arguing and fighting over a gun in the middle of a street.

Before anybody thinks this is a good example of why gun laws should be more restrictive should first find out how many laws were already being ignored in this situation...
