The commander of Germany's ISAF troops expects the german troops to stay in Afgh. for at least 10 further years. Probably 14 years, or longer....
Source, article in german (http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,276900,00.html)
Pretty long time imho. May actually change if attacks against german troops / ISAF increase (they're supposed to be peacekeepers, not to fight remaining talibans)...or the army is running out of money :|

It's all great when ISAF stays in Kabul, but I wonder if the mission is going to be extended to the further regions...
There might of course be casulties, but hanging around in Kabul isn't going to help much either.

There are already some german soldiers in the city of Kunduz preparing the arrival of 200 - 450 additional soldiers who are supposed to protect the local reconstruction teams / take the task over from the americans woot

Damn straight. Just curious Evan, are the Canadians still assisting in combat operations or are they working solely as ISAF?

ISAF, but in the next few years depending on how things r going in afghanistan the ISAF could take on combat duties. Who knows.

Isn't the role of the peacekeeper to keep the peace and fight with the enemy whoever it may be to keep the peace? I mean they're not just there as cosmetics to give the appearence, they are there to fight if need be right. Are they not prepared to fight? Im not sure what the problem is in having peacekeepers take on fighting roles? Is it training thats the problem?

I read somewhere that the Netherlands want to send a few apaches to Afghanistan. Doesn't sound like peace keeping in Kabul...

I agree. For this reason, the US should do something to show the Afghans that they are truely sorry for what they did. Maybe they should build something there, in honour of the lost lives of the little ones. HINT HINT.
