Basic Rules of camouflage.

1. Break up the outline
2. Blend in with the background
3. Don’t move

Why? Because the human eye, and human brain look for things that have a pattern to them, like a round head etc. Blending in with the background in this case I see weeds, and grass to the right, and we have no idea what is behind him. Movement will give everything away, so snipers train to move slowly, following the terrain, and staying in the shadows.

It would be nice if Ideal situation could exist for the Allies, but the real world does not work that way. Now look at the sniper page. All the snipers on roofs, sides of buildings etc. IMOHO this guy would be harder to see.

A picture tells a thousand words-most of them incorrect. What is the context of the photo? It could be for the media or an open day or perhaps he has a tiny keyhole through several layers of soft cover between him and his target 1200 meters away and awesome background screening to break up his silhouette from the perspective of his target. Perhaps the photo was taken to be used in lessons as an example of the old "why things are seen" lesson. Some of you guys read far too much or far too little into these pics. I'm sure they didn't just give some moron with no idea that rifle and he earned the title "Sniper".

Some terrains are almost impossible to camo yourself in - but as reverance said you dont know the circumstances..
