$134.1M for Blue Force Tracker Global Services
Posted 28-Apr-2005 01:53

Small business qualifier Engineering Solutions & Products Inc. in Eatontown, NJ, won a $0 placeholder delivery order as part of a $134.1 million time and materials contract for Force XXI Battle Command and Below/Blue Force Tracking Global Services. "Blue Force Tracker" (BFT) is the technology's colloquial name, and this digital command and control system that provides on the move, near real time, situational awareness to the vehicle mounted platform level by showing where friendly units and identified enemy units are located. The systems share positional updates, text messages and other information with other BFT equipped units across the battlefield. The BFT network also provides commanders the ability to digitally control and monitor their subordinate units' status and position.

Blue force is an awesome system. I think every single soldier and pilot should be equipped with a Blueforce display. It will nearly eliminate friendly fire and it will keep everyone aware of enemy positions.

i feel the same way, the only thing i worry about is if a soldier wearing a blue force identifier is killed and the enemy get the device then they could pose as a soldier, but biometric idetification to activate the device could solve that

Maybe just a simple heart rate monitor.

I heard it was too much of a pain in the a$$ trying to figure out how to work it and if you got it working it was information overload (to the guys on the ground), but they did like the text messaging part of it, because voice comms were hard to keep up. It turned into a battle field e-mail service.

I heard it did great in OIF. When enemy positions are located, they are updated on the BFT as well (it's not always real time, however).

From what I understand, it's very similar to the tracking system in first person shooters and flight simulators that you can buy for your computer.

I'm glad you like it. Thanks for your service (What was your MOS?, Army or Marines?).
