slightly off topic here, but I was shown a video with lasers actually being used against tanks.. very interesting

Real world combat laser would not have light visible while leaving source and flying to the target...... Also it would consume ALOT of power to effective even at 50yd.

It does happen, although that's not what is shown here.

They're using Kilroy/Ivan targets which are nothing more than cardboard/paper.

Tracers would easily shoot through that with little to no deviation.

In the US at least there is some serious reseach regarding airborne lasers as well as land based lasers although common opinion is that the "trooper laser" is decades off......................

Most publicly known "offensive" laser research is being focused at anti-missile tech.

Lasers could concievably be an effective infantry tool in the future though wth all kinds of combat/non-combat applications.............hope I will live to see it.

Although the "big historical event" Im really hoping to live to see is a manned mission to mars........but that is appearing less and less likely as the timeframe keeps expanding...........Oh well time to through out the corn chips and bean dip hehhe ;)
