British soldier killed in Iraq
44 minutes ago

LONDON (*******) - A British soldier was killed in combat in Iraq on Monday, taking to 83 the number of British military deaths in the country since the invasion of March 2003.

"We regret that a soldier from 12 Mechanised Brigade has died today from injuries sustained in hostile action," a Ministry of Defense spokesman said.

No further details would be released until the soldier's next of kin had been informed, the spokesman added.

There has been a sharp increase in violence in Iraq in recent weeks.

Since Thursday, when the first democratically elected government in 50 years was formed, there have been more than 15 car bombings in Baghdad and dozens of attacks elsewhere.

Britain has around 8,000 troops in Iraq, the second biggest contingent behind the United States. Most of them are based in the south.

REGIMENTAL PRAYER

Almighty, merciful, and loving Father,
you are the one who hears all our prayers and grants our petitions.

We ask you to remember, as we do,
the tremendous sacrifice made by those who went before us.
They have given their lives so that we might live and breathe freely.
We ask you to receive them into your hands.

Father, give us the strength and wisdom to learn from their example,
to uphold freedom and life at home and around the world.

Keep us vigilant as we guard the frontiers of freedom.

Give our leaders the wisdom and the strength to lead well.

Grant all of us courage and confidence.
Be, for all of us, troopers, a wise counsel in keeping peace
and a strong shield for us against our enemies.
Oh heavenly Father, give us the determination
that the peace and freedom won at such a high price be lasting!

Father, hold all of the troopers in the palm of your almighty hand
and protect them in the shadow of your wings.

Amen.

Still interesting,because the British Government has declassified Iraq from being a warzone..................so how could he be killed in combat?

Killed on active duty was the buzzword in places like Northern Ireland,and Bosnia.

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.

Heard on the news this morning that his wife is blaming Blair for his death and that she reckons he should never have been sent to Iraq! For f*cks sake :roll: :roll:

I know its a sad thing to lose a loved one in conflict but for f*cks sake...to say its Blairs fault is just pandering to the media and anti-war goons! :roll:

Am I the only one who thinks its wrong for less then 24 hours after her husbands deaf the media are interviewing her when she's greaving in a emotional and vunerbale state, and of course the question pops up "Who do you blaim?" and who else has she got to blaim.

I agree. She's(probably) emontionally unstable right now, so she'll be very sad and angry right now. Blaiming it on Tony Blair is cheap, but I think she just said it without really thinking about it.

She is nothing more than a pawn in the media's anti-war feeding freenzy. Whats the bet we will now only ever hear from her when someone wants a news bite about how illegal the war is eh?

I beleif 83 is the total death the deaths due to enemy fire are around 50, and I think about 25 of those were during the war. The others were either accidents, friendly fire or natural causes.
