I'm 22 and I loved that show as a kid! It was cool in the begining, then they have to add Hollywood story line.
Yeh it was ok, bit corny tho. The first 8 episodes were pretty good, then it just got silly. It came out just after Platoon and Hamburger Hill and so jumped on the bandwagon a bit.
A funny thing in the series where that the M60 light machinegun and the 50cal heavy machinegun did sound the same when firing :D

There was a great tv show about a polish tank crew in WW2, it was based on Przymanowski J. "Czterej pancerni i piesi" i remember seeing it back in 1991 in Lithuania. I'd like to see it again. Way better then tour of duty.
Very good show.. Does anyone know what happened at the end to Zeke and his squad? I missed the last few episodes... And what were they anyways? Regular infantry/recon/airborne..etc?? Btw has anyone seen the movie "IronCross" about Germans in WW2? It was an amazing movie, and so was "Stalingrad" also about Germans in WW2.

This is the right answer. When Tour of Duty first aired it was pretty good. As they shifted the focus of the show from being an "action" show to being a soap opera set in Vietnam it went to hell in a handbasket.

It was good but not totally accurate. More like the whole war condensed into one platoon.
Regular infantry in one episode, MACV-SOG in the next, River patrols in the third etc.
But as a view of the Vietnam war it was pretty good.

Yup from military, fx and fabulary point of wiev it is very good show...but historicaly and socialy its quite big crap esspecialy when looking at polish russian friendship... if you have Polonia chanel on your cable or dish you can hunt for it, its aired at least once a few years maybe even once a year in exchange with other great polish war series :), and whats good they are often add english subtitle movies for Poles who don't know polish... when i find out that they are airing some polish crap i will make a topic for guys like you...

Aaaaahh "Czterej pancerni i pies" - the film of my youth! :D
I agree that this show was pretty awesome - espacially when You consider communist reality and technical capabilities. Good scenario and pretty cool war scenes.
The other popular tv show of that times was "Stawka większa niż życie" with famous cpt. Kloss :D

As one of the only Vietnam veterans on this board-- if not the only one-- I have to agree with 11F5S. The first season was pretty cool and about as realistic as one could expect from any program developed to entertain. I was just happy to see something on the 'Nam in prime time. The soundtrack was also on the money.
By the time the series ended, though, the standard infantry squad had evolved into a MACV-SOG team-- which just ain't the way things happened. Also, soap opera plot lines were introduced complete with round eyed love interests.
I caught a few of the episodes about five years ago when it was being shown on TNT and they are still fun to watch if not realistic, but I rather watch reruns of "Combat" even though I know it's a war fantasy.
