What are some of the noteable deployments that 1 Para of the British Para Regiment has made during the 90's, 2000-forward? The research I've done on the Battalion only comes up with 2000 when they participated in the rescue in Sierra Leone, the following NI deployment, and then Kenya. It also said a deployment to Kosovo in 1999. Where were they, what were they doing in the years prior to this?
Also, some sights claim they had a notable deployment to Sierra Leone in 1990. Is this a typo meaning to say 2000, reguarding the rescue?
Thanks in advance.

The Paras were involved in taking control of the Oil Fields in Iraq in 2003. Have you tried http://www.army.mod.uk ?

No it was 3 Para who were part of Op Telic
1 para were in Kososvo when the Russian SFOR seized the airfield at Pristina I believe, and took part in that campaign.
You've also got to remeber that some deployments lasted 2 + years for them, they may also have been in Germany for a few years.
Are they not in Colchester now?

both 1 & 3 para were on op tellic (GW2) They moved from their home bases 1 i think was in dover and 3 at colchester. From sept 2002 they were on exercise in uk for a few months the op fiasco(fresco) being used as fire fighters to cover the firemans strike.then work up for gulf christmas leave then deployed.
Summer 02 they might have been on stand by for the marching season in Northern Ireland.
most of 16 air assualt are in colchester.
less 1 para bn in dover, 1 air land bn in cantebury and its engr regt who are split between aldershot and i think its chatham. Reason for the spread is lack of accomidation in cochester.
1 para may also have been in afganistan as well.

Aaaah right...dealing with naughty boys is your profession...
Just remember this basic rule that always works with men:
'When you can't get 'em in line, just give 'em what they want'

Who else are in 16 AA ? I saw a pic of a royal irish who had the badge on...are they part of or attached etc? The website bellow says that it has 3 infantry batalions serving at one time in 16 AA and 2 are from the Paracute reg and the other is from a line regiment...is that what the royal irish are doin?

Found this website http://www.army.mod.uk/16_aaslt_bde/contents.htm

not anymore they went out of 16 AA after the gulf. They were retained in role for tellic. But were rotated on arms plot to inverness to be a light role infantry bn (i think with mountain specialisation). They were replaced by the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders who had been in Belfast before that. They were extended in Belfast while 1 RIR was in Iraq.

The Argylls were told they were going to Iraq as part of the 16th but the powers that be thought it was not wise to send a unit who were in a transition period, and had no formal Air assault training ,much to the disgust of many Argylls, especially my mate who signed an extension to his 22 specificaly to go to war in Iraq, only to get stuck in Belfast!!!
