I took the DLAB(Defense Language Aptitude Battery) today for my army special forces entrance and i didn't even meet the minimum score. I really had no clue what to expect as far as the content of the test was going to include. I tried but everything sounded the same (the army has made up a language that you're suppost to decipher) and it went too fast. Perhaps I'll score better next time i'll take it since i'll know what to expect, i was "only" about 15 or so points from the minimum and the min is an 85 out of __? they didn't know anything about the test they were giving and they don't let you see which problems you missed which i don't understand..
They do not want you to study. It is an aptitude test. The goverment does not want to waste it's (our) money on you by sending you to school and flunk out. Sorry.

From people I've talked to, your score on the DLAB is a really good indicator of how well you can learn and understand other languages. They also use it for placement in which language you will learn. If you score higher, you become eligible for more difficult languages, like Russian or Manderan

wow, "..." you're so encouraging. just so you know I pay taxes, too. so i feel it's my duty to get the government to "waste" as much of my money as it can on me.
David, do you speak multiple languages now?

Once you pay your taxes, your money is no longer yours--it belongs to the people of the United States of America, and it's the job of the government to distribute that money in the best way possible, taking into consideration the requirements of everyone.

david, if your high school didnt require you to have a certain amount of foreign language credits to graduate, they probly should have, it would surely help some on the test. anyways im curious what stuff you had to do before that test, what are the physical requirements and such.

David, '...' wasn't being sarcastic, I think he was just being blunt. The same goes for potential pilots. They may have the reflexes of a mongoose but if their eyes are less than perfect they're s.o.l. We know you're a patriot. Keep trying.

no, i don't speak a foreign language now. yes, my high school does offer 3 foreign languages , i took french for 3 years and even so i don't think it would have helped at all on the test even if i had paid attention in that class. as for requirements before i took the test, i had a nice clean physical at meps, i did good on the asvab and got high enough on my general tech score. after i signed up for 18x they had me talk to the bat. commander at the recruiting place and he said that they wanted me to be able to pass the apft with like a 70% which is like 15 or 16 minute 2 mile run and 60 or so situps and 50 or so pushups. My recruiter hasn't made me take that test yet but i could pass it easily anyway.
if you speak foreign languages you don't take the dlab, you take the defense language profencieny test to see if you really do know that language. i wish my parents were bilingual and had passed it on to me, it would have made things much simpler.

Hello David.
In addition to English (duh), I also speak German. One thing I may advise you do is go look for the book called, "The Quick and Dirty Guide to Learning Languages FAST", by a former SOF guy. Foreign languages can be "fun" sometimes. I don't know how difficult German is, since I can't remember when I learned English, too long ago.
Does anyone know?
Just trying to help out a fellow DEP kid.

Easy? What the hell are you talking about?!
What region on Earth do you wish to operate on? If, for insatnce, you wish to go to the middle east, the 5th SFG is your choice. Learn a language such as Farsi, Turkish, etc.
Good luck my friend.

it'd be easy for you because since you already speak 2 languages you wouldn't have to learn another one, i wish i had it that easy. and i don't really care which area i operate in, i just wanna get in.
