LONDON - Buster, a 6-year-old Springer spaniel, earned more than a pat on the head Tuesday when he was awarded Britain's highest animal bravery medal for his role in breaking a resistance cell in Iraq (news - web sites).
The British army canine received the ****in Medal at a ceremony at London's Imperial Museum for discovering a cache of weapons and explosives in Safwan, southern Iraq, in March.
Buster's handler, Sgt. Danny Morgan, said the building was thought to be the headquarters of extremists responsible for attacks on British forces, but that soldiers searching it had found nothing.
He said Buster, however, persisted, eventually stopping and staring at a wardrobe. When the wardrobe was moved a piece of tin fell from the back, revealing a cavity.
Inside were Russian AK47 assault rifles, a pistol, six grenades, ammunition, 4.4 pounds of cocaine and propaganda material.
Morgan, 38, who is based at the military dogs' training school in Aldershot, southern England, said it was "fantastic" for Buster to be recognized for succeeding where humans had failed.
"It is such an honor, not just for Buster, for myself and the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, but also for all the dogs that were deployed" in Iraq, Morgan said.
The medal was presented by Princess Alexandra, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II (news - web sites) and patron of the People's Dispensary for Sick Animals. The charity's founder, Maria ****in, created the medal in 1943 to honor animals that served with distinction with British forces during World War II.
Buster is the 60th recipient of the award, which has been given to 32 World War II carrier pigeons, 23 dogs, three horses and a ship's cat.

animals have made staggering contributions in wartime. just think of the number of horses that have been killed in battle, for example. yet they continue to serve us with love and enthusiasm. animals rule, humans suck...

I think the correct way to establish your sentence would be ''Dogs are cool.'' ''Dog's are cool'' Would mean ''Dog is are cool'' and that obviously makes little, if any, sense whatsoever.

Apparently the Irish army have been complaining about the Canine training division's attempts to get their dogs to sniff out WMD,so far they have gone through 10,000 dogs with no results!!
And I know it's not politically correct but I'm sure you all can substitute the name for another!!

met buster in kuwait he is a cracking dog typical spaniel when not working. But the complete professional when in harness.

Buster is an arms and explosives search dog which spaniels are excellent for.
the RAVC use German shepards as attack dogs

The RAVC use Belgian Shepards as attack dogs. German shepards are too inbred and have had alot of the agressive tendancies bred out of them.

sorry royal the display 101 MWD did for us in coyote most of their dogs were German shepards they had 1 belgian shepard. And buster who is a cracking dog

spaniels are good at sniffing out drugs and explosives, that's why you sometimes see them in airports and eurostar terminals
i've seen labrador retreivers used as sniffing dogs in airports also...
