it is not a gun shot wound: no impact point, kid doesn't care, blood is 'smeared' in even pattern over his face. the kid really couldn't care less that he is bleeding profusely.

As you said, nice optics! Could that be a Leupold scope? Interesting, I've only seen those pictured on more long-range rifles. I was under the impression that the US Army was using the lower-magnification optics like the Trijicon ACOG for the designated marksmen?

So, does this mean that the scope pictured above is better for the designated marksman role? Or is it just that when this trooper went to the quartermaster, they were all out of the Trijicon types? Or maybe it is just more suited to his (or his CO's) preferences.

Perhaps someone with more knowledge on the subject could elaborate?

In any case, simply fantastic pictures!

that bllod comes from the ear that is due to head injury or close explosion of stunt grenade, that caused internal ear bleeding it's why this blood is so light red and why he looks like he do not care, since probablye is in shock... this boy probably will be deaf on this ear premanently....

and about propaganda....destroying whole building because there lived only one terrorist looks to me like executing entire villages in poland for hiding one jew during the WW2 i know of at least couple such cases

if it`s internal injury you will not see wound...and bleeding from the ear can be much more bloody i know somethin since i treated last year kid who hit floor with his head and bleednig was much more severe, also on head u have a lot of smal vains but when u cut them bleeding is terrible I had a 3mm cut that soaked my shirt with blood to the belt... so i know what I am talking about...

If that blood was dry it would be a lot darker, and it would also be flaked around the collar! ;)

Re the burst eardrum thing, well I can tell you from experience I was in a throwing bay when another squaddie's L2 Grenaded fell into the priming bay,the Cpl there pulled the Soldier out both suffered perforated/burst ear drums and the blood was pissing out of all facial orifices!!

Sometimes they actually do post non faked pics too guys!!
The wound looks like its from behind the ear,the splattering of the face would come from running with the collar saturated in blood hitting his face as he legged it!

if it is his then the blood could have got round his face by holding something up to it. And if it isn't his blood which I suspect, he could have been holding someone else who was bleeding.

Iraq war's Indian victim cremated

By Asit Jolly
BBC correspondent in Chandigarh

A funeral has been held for a US army soldier from India who was killed while on patrol in Habbaniya, Iraq.

The US army's Lieutenant General James Campbell led tributes to Sergeant Uday Singh as his body was cremated in his home-town of Chandigarh, north India.

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/39623000/jpg/_39623873_udaysingh_ap203b.jpg

The 21-year-old - who, relatives say, had hoped for US citizenship - is the first Indian killed in combat in Iraq.

Earlier this year, India's Government rejected a US request for peacekeeping troops to be sent to Iraq.

Sergeant Singh was posthumously awarded top gallantry awards - the Bronze Star and the US army's oldest accolade, the Purple Heart medal.

A contingent of US soldiers attended the funeral, and were joined by buglers from the Indian army's Gurkha regiment. (the ones in the photo maybe?)

Lieutenant General Campbell, who heads the US army's Pacific Command, spoke of Sergeant Singh as a "brother in arms and a true Indian".

Describing him as a hero, he said Sergeant Singh was and always would be an American soldier.

Flag and medals

The military honours were preceded by a religious ceremony, in which Sikh prayers were read out.

The dead soldier's father, former Indian army officer Lieutenant Colonel Preet Mohinder Singh, his mother and his sister, wept as his body was consigned to the flames, according to ancient Sikh ritual.

Uday Singh's parents were later given a US flag and replicas of their son's medal by Lieutenant General Campbell.

Sergeant Singh was killed on 1 December when his patrol was ambushed by suspected insurgents in the town of Habbaniya, west of Baghdad.

India's Government has said it will not send its troops to support US forces in Iraq until there is an international consensus on the future of the war-torn, oil-rich state.

Heard about "Paintball injurees " ??
Too bad , the shirt was nice ... How morronic can they get ?
Jeez, that's absolutely brutal.
That can't possibly be real.

Yes, it is an image of the tragedy of continuing the cycle of violence - that is what is moronic. The AP reporters on site document events visible for all to see. Your photo from another section of the IDF soldiers with dozens of media one step behind is a perfect example - and a fantastic image I must say....

I don't know about the photo, but what you guys are saying about 'so much blood being impossible from a cut' and the boy 'looking like he didn't give a damn' doesn't make much sense.
I've had quite some cuts in my life, and none of 'em caused any pain at all... Hell, last summer some glass bottle exploded near me, and a small piece of glass hit my neck (just a little piece of the flesh, no arteries or whatsoever). I hardly felt anything (only a sudden feeling like something had hit it, but just like someone threw peanut at it), and it was only after some people started getting freaked out that I noticed that I was bleeding. Within 30 seconds my entire shirt was soaked red at the front...
And all that time I didn't feel ****...

So to summarize, I won't give any conclusions about the picture because frankly I don't know, but the 'extreem blood' and 'he looks careless' arguments are just plain bull****.
