In Manhattan, a transit officer was rushed to the hospital after his gun fired, hitting him in the stomach.
It happened late this afternoon at the transit district three precinct - that's inside the 145th Street subway station in Harlem.
It's not clear right now why the officer's gun went off but investigators believe it was an accident. The officer, who is believed to have high rank in the NYPD, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital.
His condition is not known at this time.

I guess "he's the only one in the room professional enough to carry a glock."

No such thing as an AD, it was either a ND or mechanical failure of the weapon.
The latter is unlikely.

Typical lame reporting: Is he a transit cop or NYPD? (Boston has the city police department, but the MBTA (our public transportation administraton) has it's own separate police force - our transit police. I always thought NY was the same - two separate forces.) It doesn't make a big deal to the point of the story, but if I had a relative or friend on one of those forces, it would make a big difference to me!
Wonder if any follow up with start the "this type of gun isn't safe" crap...

I'd be interested to find out why the hell, his gun was pointing at his stomach?

An ND into your stomach is a tricky thing. Don't use your kevlar as a clearing barrel. The NY guys never wanna listen.

They used to be separate, as was the Housing Authority Police. Sometime in the early '90s, all the agencies were merged under NYPD. Now when you go to the Academy, after graduation you will be sent to one of the precincts, transit or housing.

Thanks dude! MA did something similar in the late 80's or 90's, the Registry of Motor Vehicle police, and another police force got rolled into the State Police.
