whoa i thought that was the top of the plane for a moment...it looks like a trick to throw off the enemy?

its exactly what it is, i talked to the first female cf-18 pilot in the canadian armed forces and she said in a close dogfight at high speeds it can realy help in throwing the enemy off your tail, if they think ur upside down or rightside up then they know your plane will only be able to move in certain ways, so they predict, and they predict wrong and should be thrown off.

Whistler

Ya apparently its really effective.

I remember a while back I tried one of those skins in Janes F/A-18 then had a dogfight against it, really seemed to work in the game.

I think some American planes use it too... I've seen it on A-10s and Navy F/A-18s.

Canadian dollar is rapidly climbing up against the American dollar these days. Its gone up 12cents in 6months.
I believe back in the 60's-70's the Canadian dollar was worth even more than the american dollar.

Ok whats the difference between a Coyote, a LAV III and a Cougar?
Can someone answer this for me?

Minjin
12-13-2003, 07:50 PM
Dunno how much this will help, but....

Coyote: 8 wheeled recon vehicle. "The most innovative aspect of the Coyote is its surveillance system, designed to detect hostile forces using a combination of day camera, radar, thermal imaging, and laser range-finding equipment.

The ballistic-steel hull protects against small-arms fire, mines and high-explosive airbursts. Add-on armour protects against larger projectiles. The two-man electric-drive turret is equipped with a laser-warning receiver. A fully stabilized 25-mm chain gun provides light assault firepower. On roads the vehicle's maximum speed is 100 km/h, with a maximum range of 660 km. It can deploy quickly to an area accessible by roads or trails, and then continue cross-country. A mast-equipped version of the vehicle raises its surveillance gear 10 m above the ground to see hostile forces over obstacles and from protected positions.

Armament:
25-mm stabilized M242 chain gun
7.62-mm stabilized coaxial machine gun
7.62-mm top-turret mounted machine gun
76-mm grenade launcher (2 clusters of 4 launchers)
7.62-mm C6 machine gun

Specifications:
Length: 6.39 m
Width: 2.50 m
Height: 2.69 m
Maximum speed: 100 km/hr
Range: 660 km
Weight: 14.4 t
Gradient: maximum 60%
Side slope: maximum 30%
Trench crossing: 2.06 m
Fording: 1.3 m max
Sights: Daytime optical, Thermal Imagery (TI), Generation III Image Intensification (II)
Surveillance System: Battlefield Surveillance Radar, Thermal Imager, Daylight camera, and Laser Range-finder
Winch: Front-mounted 6,800 kg dynamic pull self-recovery winch
Engine: 275 hp Detroit Diesel 6V53T
Transmission: 5 forward gears, 1 reverse
Transfer case: 2 speed
Suspension: Independent rear 4 wheels torsion bar, Front 4 wheels strut
Wheels: 8 wheels (4 or 8 wheel drive)
Tires: Michelin XML
Brakes: Power (air)
Entered service: 1996
Number in service: 203

Cougar: 6 wheeled general purpose armored vehicle. "The Armoured Vehicle General Purpose (AVGP) fleet is comprised of three variants: the Cougar, the Grizzly, and the Husky. The AVGP fleet entered service in 1976. A total of 195 Cougars were originally procured to equip Regular and Reserve armoured units. Following the acquisition of the Coyote as a part of the 1999 Army Equipment Rationalisation Plan, the Cougar fleet was reduced to 100 vehicles – to be exclusively employed by Reserve armoured units. The Cougar fleet is currently undergoing a service life-extension program to increase its reliability, supportability and commonality with the Bison and Coyote fleets. The program also includes the replacement of the obsolete RADNIS image intensification sight by the M36E4+ sight, which is an improved version of the Grizzly image intensification sight.

Armament:
Cougar: 76-mm L23A1 gun, [fires HESH, Smoke BE (base ejected), and Canister rounds]
7.62 mm machine gun (C6), and 66-mm smoke grenade launchers (2 clusters of 4 launchers)
Grizzly: .50 cal heavy machine gun or a 7.62-mm machine-gun (C6) and 66-mm smoke grenade launchers (2 clusters of 4 launchers)
Husky: 7.62-mm machine gun (C6) and 66-mm smoke grenade launchers (2 clusters of 4 launchers)

Specifications:
Length: 5.97 m
Width: 2.50 m
Weight: 10.7 t
Maximum speed: 100 km/h
Engine: 275 hp Detroit Diesel 6V53T two-cycle turbo-charged diesel
Crews: Cougar — 3 (Commander, gunner and driver, 2 soldiers in rear of vehicle)
Husky — 2 (Driver and technician)
Grizzly — Maximum of 5, depending on role
Entered service: 1976
Number in service: Cougar - 100, Grizzly - 274, Husky - 27

LAV III: "This fast, well-armed LAV III is a state-of-the-art troop carrier that will serve the needs of mounted infantry well into the new century. The vehicle is well protected and can be used day and night, in all weather conditions, in battlefield smoke and on most types of terrain. Capable of speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour on roads, the LAV III will give the commander many more options in both combat and non-combat situations. For example the commander may choose to keep the troops mounted and protected while using the 25-mm stabilized cannon — an option not available in the past. The driver and the commander have display terminals for the Tactical Navigation System (TACNAV), as well as thermal viewers. The TACNAV links a Global Positioning System (GPS) with a digital magnetic compass and laser range finder. Good anti-mine performance and an automatic fire and explosion suppression system provide additional safety for the crew. When used as an infantry section carrier, the LAV III deploys with a vehicle commander, a gunner, a driver and seven infantry soldiers. When deployed as a Tactical Command Post, it carries six soldiers. Three other variants are being procured including a Forward Observation Officer (FOO), TOW Under Armour (TUA) and an Engineer variant.

Variants:
313 LAV Infantry Section Carriers
181 LAV Command Post variants
71 LAV TOW Under Armour (TUA) variants (Turret equipped with 2 TOW launchers)
47 LAV Forward Observation Officer (FOO) variants
39 LAV Engineer variants

Armament:
25-mm stabilized M242 chain gun
7.62-mm stabilized coaxial machine gun (C6)
5.56 or 7.62-mm top-turret mounted machine gun
76-mm grenade launcher (2 clusters of 4 launchers)

Specifications:
Length: 6.98 m
Width: 2.7 m
Height: 2.8 m
Speed: 100 km/hr
Range: 450 km
Weight: 16 950 kg

Ok whats the difference between a Coyote, a LAV III and a Cougar?
Can someone answer this for me?

Cougar: based on Swiss Movag Piranha I 6x6 (build by GMDD). Three different version (Cougar, which is Fire Support version; Grizzly, and APC version and Husky and ARV version).
http://www.sfu.ca/casr/griz-3.jpg

Coyote (LAV-Recce): based on Swiss Movag Piranha II 8x8. There's also a Coyote Direct Fire Support version. Bison (LAV II) is the APC version of the same Piranha II 8x8, but without the turret.
http://www.sfu.ca/casr/biso-3.jpg

LAV III (Kodiak): based on Movag Piranha III 8x8. Minjin explained the different versions.

not to dog anyone but the side view of a coyote on page 2 is a bison not a coyote. Coyote has athe 25mm chaning gun in a Delco turret. the bison pictured is what we mounted the aries system in (I don't think we use the aries system anymore and the Bisons have been retasked)

I am a firm supporter of just getting proper transport aircraft and keeping the tanks, or getting new ones. Not getting ANOTHER wheeled vehicle......
