Looking for opinions from professionals on the Springfield Armory XD Series pistols.

I would not consider myself a professional, but I'm far from a novice, so I'll chime in and you can take it for what its worth.

I do not have an XD, nor have I ever carried one. But I have never really heard anything bad about them, and plenty of praise. Everything I've heard points to it being a reliable handgun, and I do have a few friends that carry them.

At the very least, you could do alot worse.

I own 2.

.40 4" Service model (Had major work done by APW Cogan (http://www.apwcogan.com/)) and a .40 3" sub. Currently the 3" is my CCW.

I haven't had any problems whatsoever, the feel is great, no complaints here. NO FTF's or FTE's on both guns, but some have had these problems. The finish could use some work, but just send it to Springfield and they re-finish for free.

Overall, I highly recommend them.

There's a great website HERE (http://www.hs2000talk.com/) to get all kinds of info, slightly biased of course. ;)

If you do get one....Well, at least get a 5" barell- tactical model with stainless steel slide.

It is a nice pistol. The trigger reset is a bit longish, but the pull is plenty smooth. I have seen a roll pin in the slide break, dissabling the pistol. this seems to be rare. I've also seen the guide rod break, once again, dissabling the pistol. This also seemed to be unusual. For the most part, I've heard few complaints, and the guns we broke were put through the ringer. (the only guns we didn't ruin were the Glocks, as they are the most durable pistol out there) The ergonomics of the XDs are really good, especially if you prefer a more traditional grip angle and a slimmer grip, as it used metal magazines. I enjoy shooting the XD. Croatia seems to be turning out a good product.

I really liked the 5" Tactical model, it was high on my list of weapons I tested when I was looking to purchase a new handgun. The fact that they are reasonably priced is nice too. The 5" runs right around $500 brand new.

It felt solid when I fired it, and the gun looked and felt well crafted. The grip is real easy and comfortable even for someone with small hands, plus it is available in a wide variety of calibers, including .357 SIG.

Some people have brought up some durability questions about the metal on plastic action and I guess Springfield has contracted these weapons out to a Croatian company which doesn't automatically imply they are unreliable, but it makes it hard to truly call it a Springfield Armory weapon.

YMMV

They didn't contract it out, they bought the company, formerly known as HS. the gun was originally called the HS 2000. Guess what year it came out.

Are you sure they bought it? Everything I read said they simply bought the rights to import it and then slapped a $100 higher price tag on it, heh.

I am an extreme professional ninja commando:

We have never had any come back to our shop for repairs. They are good guns, a combination between a Glock and a SIG.

Good guns. ESPECIALLY for what you pay! VERY good value for the money.

Buy one. NOW. :D

I have a 4" XD-9. Runs great I didn't care for the 5" to large for concealment. I would put there metal mags up against any mags on the market they are very well made and very durable. Also there aren't any drop leg holsters for it yet that I have seen.

See www.hs2000talk.com for more info.

Also they did not buy HS they merely bought the importation rights for the guns. HS2000 are still sold in many other countries.

Thank you gentlemen.
I bought the XD-9. So far I'm pleased with the gun, 150 rounds later.
I like the easy disassembly for cleaning. Looked at the recommended website, looks like good info, albeit biased as described.
Thanks again.

Yea you can't really get more simple for dissasembly than they all ready are. One tip for cleaning, it don't need alot of oil just give it a dab on any place that has wear and wipe excess off. Also keep the blue plastic bag that it came in I believe it is moisture absorbent. I also threw a couple silica packets in in there because I had heard that the finish on them wasn't too durable. With the bad and the silica packet however mine has been fine. One more thing the stupid lock it comes with don't use it. It nearly broke my extractor.

The best place for accessories and mags for it so far that I have found is www.pistol-gear.com

I've got the XD40 Tactical with the OD green frame. I love it. Very accurate, reliable, and fun to shoot. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Oh yeah, I thought of one other thing. My only qualm with the weapon is that the bluing on the slide wears off real fast. Mine was showing holster wear after only 3 weeks. Oh well, I didn't buy it to look pretty.
