In a move that's given a sudden boost to the minority government while sparking calls of betrayal from the Tories, Conservative MP Belinda Stronach crossed the floor Tuesday to join the Liberal party.

Stronach, who was considered one of the rising young stars of the Tory caucus, has joined the Liberal cabinet and was rewarded with the portfolio of minister of human resources.

Her move gives Prime Minister Paul Martin's minority Liberals a better chance of surviving a crucial confidence motion on the federal budget on Thursday, and consequently avoid being forced into a summer election.

"I have been uncomfortable for some time with the direction the leader of the Conservative Party has been taking," said Stronach.

Seated next to Martin at a morning news conference in Ottawa, Stronach said she doesn't see Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper as being "truly sensitive" to the needs and the complexities of Canada.

I was suprised when I heard about this morning.

It was funny at the press conference when all of the reporters laughed at our idiot Prime Minister when he said this wouldn't effect thursdays confidence vote.

Oh well, the Liberals weren't getting my vote before this and they aren't getting it after this.

This is going to be seriously rantish, so I will say this to the topic,
Belinda Stronachis the daighter of Frank Stronach, and if she has any business sense like he does, then she should be able to do something.

Everyone likes to bash the liberals in canada.
You dont seriously think that Harper or Stockboy would be respectable statesmen do you?
Seriously they both are dinks, and the governments before this one or Chretien werent better either.Kim Campbell, Brian Mulroney et al.
Canadians have been back stabbed and have fallen for lies by their politicians for almost ten years now.

The only reason I would vote at all, is to stop people like Stockboy and Harper from getting in, because Chretien and Martin are the lesser of all evils.

Do you think Stockboy or Harper would have stopped the ridiculous rise in property taxes ?
Do you think Stockboy or Harper would have done the right thing when it comes to healthcare and education?
Seriously , they would have held stupid committes and hearings and discussion panels too, and still not chosen the right way, because it doesnt sell politically.

If the majority of Canadians would only see the fact that **** doesnt come for free and prices have to be paid for it.

A social healthcare system, will never be even budget. It is not possible.
Social healthcare isnt cutting services until they are almost non-existant, just to cook the books.

Education will never be even budget.

And one there is one thing that really really really pisses me off that this government did under Chretien.
Yeah these wankers cut the amount of people earing low income by 30%. IN one go.
By lowering the amount of money neccessary to statistically be defined as low income.

And while my biological mother was trying to figure out how she was going to make her mortgage payments , while the Hydro bill people were calling about the last hydro bill as a single mother to my biological half brother, with the father not paying **** because he didnt have a job. But since she made about 1,5-2k cdn per year more , she wasnt low income and paid even more taxes then.

Sorry for the novel everyone, and for the rant.

Seriously, I have had enough of the Liberals wasting/stealing my tax dollars.

Let's review:

EH101 contract cancelled 1000's of people laid off, 1billion in cancellation penalties.

Gun registry....do I need to give numbers?

Sponsorship scandal...again do I need to give numbers?

Right now we need a shake-up in Ottawa, I hope the rest of Canada see's that too.

So let's see.

Liberals have been caught stealing since they left the trees, but Steven Harper is scary? Where the hell do you get that? Did you read the auditor generals report? Did you hear of the Gomery investigation?

How the hell can anybody who reads a military site even talk about the Federal Liberals without swearing? They've decimated the Canadian Military, year after year, with cuts, ignorance and over-tasking.

Someone pointed out that the Federal Liberals have been in power longer than the Russian Communist party.. and that comarison sounds fine to me!

I just finshed watching a great report on the CBC (that's a first ;) ), contrasting some of the things she said about Paul Martin and the Liberals a year ago with what she said today.

She said (in the past) that Paul Martin was either "involved with the sponsorship program, or incompetent. Either way he isn't fit to be Prime Minister". Compare that to what she says today and...... :slap:

Just a second here before the revolution gains a hold,
The decline of the canadian military is not a sole liberal thing. It goes back a long way. Cancelling the Choppers was just the last biggest thing to happen. Allmost all prime ministers have been talking about raising defense budgets etc. But did they do it ? It took a lot longer than the last 6-10 years to turn the CF into what it is now.

Gun registry ? Of course its a farce. But Im sure a few people on the other side supported it to. Gun control is politically correct.
Law abiding citizens shooting criminals in self-defense is not politically correct, nor voter gaining. So the first step to gun control is to find out who has them. The government should have walked for that one alone, dont even need to calculate the sponsorship thing in there.

The sponsorship scandal ? Of course its disgusting. I dont think anyone in their right mind can call that acceptable. But its only because the ruling party happens to be the same one as when the stealing happened.
Im sure if you go back many a year. You will find some conservatives lingin their pockets as well. Its politics. Doesnt make it fairer to the people of course.

For some reason my post wont be edited a second time, I wanted to add

The first thing for gun control is finding out who owns guns.

The government should have walked for the gun registry fiasco alone, not even counting in the sponsorship scandal.

Dacanadianbomb: Have you read this?
http://www.fedpubs.com/subject/govern/killed_military.jpg

This is a summary:
http://www.cda-cdai.ca/CDA_GMs/AGM67/granatstein.htm
It covers every PM since John Diefenbaker’s (1957-1963), since ww2 although not all of them since have been Liberals, by far the majority of them were. That's why they sholder the majority of the blame.

The gun registry is a total joke and may have been a larger scandal than the sponsorship scandal:
Here's some more reading for ya:

Billions wasted on useless firearms control while the RCMP lacks men and equipment:
by Shafer Parker

Conservative MP Garry Breitkreuz points out that the registry is essentially useless in protecting police in such situations for many reasons, including the following:

* The government does not require that the 176,000 persons prohibited from owning firearms report any change of address to police.

* Police do not track the 37,000 persons with restraining orders against them, or the 12,000 gun owners who have had their firearms licences refused or revoked.

* The law does not require gun owners to store their registered firearms at their home addresses or tell the government where they are stored.

* The government does not keep track of registered firearms that are loaned between licenced firearms owners.

* As of last August, more than 315,000 handgun owners had failed to re-register more than 600,000 handguns.

* Somewhere between 400,000 and one million gun owners have failed or refused to obtain a firearms licence, meaning their guns remain unregistered.

* According to Statistics Canada firearm import and export records, the government still has more than 10 million guns to register.

* Finally, gun-registration certificates contain too few identifying characteristics, making it almost impossible to verify that any particular gun is registered in the system.

Even worse, a very real possibility exists that over the past 10 years the gun registry's prohibitive costs (including another $97 million budgeted for 2005-06) had depleted RCMP resources to the point that a Roszko-type disaster became inevitable. That no senior officers or emergency-response teams were on the scene at the Mayerthorpe farm was no surprise. Such ranking officers are too few and stretched too thin. Chronic funding shortages have led to a change in RCMP policy in which the force deliberately seeks new recruits with life- and job-related experience who supposedly require less supervision. Rural detachments are particularly hard hit. In 2004, Alberta had the third-lowest proportion of police officers, with 160 per 100,000 residents. Only Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island had a lower ratio.

"The Liberal gun-registry fiasco is much bigger than the Quebec Sponsorship Scandal," Breitkreuz says. "Don't take my word for it. The auditor general has verified that any value Canadians receive in terms of enhanced safety is minuscule compared to the amount of money being spent."

http://www.businessreport.ca/web/index.php

What are you, a Liberal?
Stop pissing on the revolution!
