What do yall think about this.... http://www.canadaforclark.com/why.html

Since non Americans can not give money to candidates, they can give it to democratic institutions that support candidates.

Looks like the general is going over the border for some cash

We are probably the country that is most affected by what goes on in Washington. We are America's first commercial partner, one of our provinces, Quebec, ranks 7th in terms of commercial volume by itself! In some way, the next man to occupy the White House is of concern to many Canadians. Of course, not in the same way it is for Americans or for us when it comes to our own leaders, but if some Canadians want to show their support to a candidate, good for them.
Our new PM says he places an improvement of Canada-US relations among his top priorities. If we can also make a good start with some of the candidates (and by extension, maybe the future president), we can work out the damages caused by Chretien's idiotic behavior in the last year (blaming the US for the 9/11 on the events' 2nd anniversary, doing the least to correct his position after one of his advisors called Bush a moron in front of journalists, etc).
IMHO, I like Wesley Clark. If I was a staunch supporter, I'd be happy to help his campaign. Maybe this is just a further a sign of integration between our two countries (I said integration, not assimilation, ok?).

As a Canadian I'll apologize on their behalf to all the Americans on this board.

I know a lot of Canadians care a lot about US politics, but these people are getting a little carried away. Its one thing to have personal opinions, but an organized movement like that is going a little too far. Most of the stuff on that site is total BS to begin with.

They should work on solving the problems inside our own Government before going on about the problems to US has.

Not to mention people like this can cause quite a rift in our Govts. Look at what happened when Chretiens nephew said "a victory for Gore will be a victory for Canada"... Gore lost, and Bush-Canada relations had a pretty cold start...

And before any Canadians jump in and say "they have a right to support an American candidate, our countries are very close", think about this. How would you feel if a bunch of American groups started popping up to support the Conservatives and Stephen Harper to get rid of the "Anti-American" Liberals? You'd probably be pissed off, and rightly so... its not their business who we elect just like its not our business who they elect.

I'd say woohoo, any help we can get to get rid of the morons running our country. ;)

I share your reservations about foreign intrusion in a country's internal politics ( I do believe in sovereignty!).

However, this site and the group that set it up is hardly intruding in anything. As already mentioned, foreign nationals cannot participate financially to a US presidential candidate. So it's likely to have minimum to no impact other than a show of support, but it remains rethoric. I hardly think this group will have any impact at all on the next presidential elections' results, so no harm done.

Likewise, the words of a few US radio pundits (like those who nicknamed us "Canuckistan", I think they're affiliated to Pat Buchanan) didn't have any impact on our politics.

I think this website is doing little more than cheerleading, it's not going to make a difference. No impact, no intrusion.

I don't like Bush and I want to see Clark in power. Bush is not at all popular with Canadaians Clark would be.

Hey all of you from the Western boon docks. Keep dreaming your dream of conservative government ain't gonna happen any time soon. Liberals will always win, as long as they got support in Ontario and other parts of Canada.

I find myself coming to like TP more and more every day. I think I need to take a fookin Valium. I have enough respect though for the Canadiens on this board to not comment on their politics because Iam sure they could care less what I think anyway! I got enough problems dealing with the goddamn liberals in my country I sure as hell dont need any outsider giving me his or her opinion about my country's politics!

You just summed up my entire view on international opinions of American policy in 100 words or less.

It’s not a matter of whether you agree, it’s rather that this a fact. The liberal party maintains a voting hold on the east, and while the majority of Ontario and Quebec vote in that fashion, the west will have no say. We merely lack the population to significantly change the course of votes, that’s democracy for ya! ;)
