More US forces have deployed in a US base in Tiqrit after the capture of the ousted president Saddam Hussein.
100 US military tanks and nearly 100 military jeeps entered to the Saddam Hussein's home town on Tuesday under heavy security. Iraqi police and US troops increased their presence while two US choppers were hovering the area on the arrival of the military convoy. A street, which was called Saddam Hussein formerly, was also closed to the traffic for security reasons. Many tanks moved ahead in streets raising a cloud of dust as a show of force against Baath remnants before their arrival to the US base

US Army Chief Richard Myers and Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, the commander of US coalition ground forces in Iraq, held a joint press conference at Baghdad International Airport after Saddam's capture. Upon a question on Saddam's capture, Myers told the ex-president Saddam Hussein was treated as a prisoner of war according to the Geneva Convention and international standards of treatment. Myers added any intelligence attained from the former president would now have to be carefully analysed. Sanchez told, on his part, he suspected Saddam was financing attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq
