Now don't flame me from this. The joke was originally published in a Russian news paper after the Moscow theathre incident. To make this joke more understandable you need to understand something about the new millionaires in Russia. They like to boast to each other how much they spent money on things. So the original joke goes like this: Two millionaires were discussing how much their new watches had cost. The 1st millionaire said to the other: ”I bought this watch from Bvlgari. It cost 5000 dollars”. The 2nd millionaire replied: ”What? Are you crazy!? You should have gone to the Rolex! The watch would have cost 10000 dollars!

So here goes the joke modified to the Moscow/Beslan incident as in the Russian news paper (don't ask what news paper, I can't remember).

Two Generals were discussing after the siege had ended bloodily.

1st General: "I just ended the siege. It costed 100 hostage lives. But it’s finally over now."

2nd General: "What kind of troops you used?"

1st General: "I used ordinary army troops."

2nd General: "What?! Are you crazy?! You should have used the army’s special forces!!! There would have been at least 200 dead hostages!!!"

Blaming the Russians? Rubbish! That was a one way suicide mission for the Chechens, if the Russians wouldn't have attempted to take that school then everyone inside would have perished, just like the seige in Moscow.

They say the special forces used flame-throwers and rocket launchers against the school as hostages were still inside, contrary to the official version.

Gimmie a break... Flame Throwers and Rocket Launchers! This is the craziest accusation I've heard in quite some time.

I did see some RPG's but wether they belonged to the Russian troops or the local militia I don't know.

I think I heard somewhere that they were to be used to breach the walls or something like that but I don't know if it actually happened.
Using a flamethrower in such an environment is just plain stupid and I highly doubt anybody would be stupid enough to do that.

would've killed everybody in the building

if them rocket louchers and flame throwers were used there would be witnesses, the said weapons have a very distinct noise signature, no way someone could mistake it for any other weapon then rpg

First of all, i want to say that i am sure that the FSB guys on the ground did the job as best as they could, there are stories of operatives covering kids with their own bodies and taking bullets for them. If there were any glitches I would blame them on their superiors in Moscow or Vladikavkaz.

The grupa A&V operative to the far right of the picture, can be seen caryying RPG-7 with OG-7V antipersonnel warhead (much less destructive than the usual HE AT round), wether he fired it or not, i don't know ...

As for the flame-thrower - they are referring to Shmel ...

Exactly, they're referring to RPO-A.

The problem is one of this things going into school might kill anyone inside, and has an absolutely devastating effect in close quarters.

So, it's BS.

My thoughts as well, RPO-A has a thermobaric (similar to fuel-air explosives) warhead, it is devastating in enclosed spaces indeed, they were used in Afghanistan to clear the caves of the Mujahedeen

Well I remember watching a newsreel and this russian soldier was trying to jump into a window with an AT launcher on his back. What sort of MOUT op is that? He got stuck at the window and his buddy pulled him back and the rest of them piled in.

Also, it was widely used in both Chechen campaigns and local conflicts.

The effect is absolutely devastating - believe me.

After Beslan a lot of buzz flying everywhere, the problem is just what you're picking up. Being aknowledged with this operation, I could say - there's not a single accusation anyone could put upon SF operators.

Sounds like some in the Russian media are taking lessons from U.S. leftists. Wah, it's the governments fault [insert everything here].
