chatting with my brother again.
he described being shot at but from such an extreme distance rounds were landing between 200 to 50 metres from the sangar so haveing a disscussion with his oppo if that counts as effective enemy fire and if so if they can shoot back :D. Point being if your discussing incoming fire its not effective targets were unidentifable at least 1k away possibly more AK can probably hit in the vicinty of a camp from 1500metres +away .
just put down as another shotrep. more problem from NDs especially 3 mps while unloading not happy when offered buckshee rounds for sale rofl

Good to hear your brother is doing ok.

Shouldn't the British be trying to fit in more with the local population and joining in with the firing celebrations? Especially the AS90's

Since today everyone has been on the retard-mode I could keep the good stuff flowin'

Later that afternoon, I get another clandestine visit from a truth-telling private who discloses the real secret for Jackson's sterling success rate. Out on the range, there are targets at 50 meters, 150 meters, 200 meters and 300 meters. To pass basic rifle management, you have to hit 23 targets with 40 shots. The trick is to hold your fire when the targets farthest down range come up and only shoot at the closest ones. When I ask one of the drill sergeants about it, he nods. "Out there, the 300-meter target comes up, you can hear the crickets singing in the woods it's so quiet. The 50-meter target comes up and its WHAAAAAAAAMMMMMM. Sounds like a ****in' ambush.'"

btw out of curiosity, is it so that in the US military a person who can use heavy machine gun or something more exotic that the AR he/she's a 'specialist' ?

Dunno what the gripe was at being offered buckshee rounds - if I'd ND I'd take up the offer - and then gone away to practice my unloading drill before anyone noticed. I know it sounds daft, but at one time I can remember being talked through the procedure everytime by an NCO at the unloading point - to make sure no one had an accident. That way we never had an ND. Sure everyone should know how to do it properly, but it was this particular blokes attention to detail that stopped us juniors dropping a bo**ock.

Not sure if it is in military law, but it is certainly in standing orders of every base I've ever been Orderly/Field Officer that the Guard Commander or his/her 2i/c supervises all loading and unloading at the loading bay.

NB This is slightly different on Ops but all drills on entering/leaving a base should still be supervised by an NCO (note I didn't put Officer ;) ).
