I posted this in the equip/gear board also but I really need some help so I posted here (sorry :D).

Recently I ordered a Soldier 2000 Combat Shirt and Trouser set from Soldier of Fortune (www.SOFMilitary.co.uk) but I got a call in from them today to let me know that the Soldier 2000 trousers in my size were out of stock, and I was offered Tropical DPM trousers instead. The version of the Tropical DPM trousers was not specified (air-tex etc) but I was assured that the pattern was identical and the material was the "same".

I was wondering if this is true? I am not wholely concerned with the material but the pattern is what was bothering me, as I have not been able to examine the trousers first-hand and it is almost impossible to compare them with poor-quality different-lighted pictures on the web. I did however read on a website that the Tropical DPM is an offshoot of the 95 Pattern series (so I assume the pattern is identical)?

Can anyone give me some information on the trousers and if anything I have stated is accurate?

DPM tropicals were around long before CS95. British temperate DPM is British temperate DPM - the shades of colours may vary but the pattern (if genuine) is identical.

Genuine trops are a lighter weight material, they have a high nylon content (so have no flash/flame resistance), they tend to be yellower in colour and have ordinary stitched buttons rather than the Canadian slotted buttons used on CS95. Neither is windproof.

tropical trousers were the perferred wear of most troops if they could get away with it as lightweight and quick drying suprising warm as well good piece of kit as long as they stayed away from a naked flame
